About this ebook

When Barb Chandler poured through the literature about dating abuse she found the majority only had stories about people in opposite-gender relationships. Therefore when she wrote her book "Outing Dating Abuse" she used ancedotes with LBGTQ characters to introduce the topic of each chapter with their thought-provoking stories. Chandler thought it might be easier for readers to absorb the material in her book if they had something to identify with.

Outing Dating Abuse has factual information especially for lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, and queer/questioning (LBGTQ) youth that will help them to;

• compare healthy and abusive relationships
• determine if you are in an abusive relationship
• identify various abusive behaviors
• discover why you should be concerned about the cycle of violence
• learn ways to keep yourself safe from harm
• find out about date rape drugs
• learn the make up of a healthy relationship
• find resources supportive of LBGTQ people in abusive relationships.

Outing Dating Abuse is a book whose time has come.

Author

Barb Chandler, BA

Barb Chandler is a retired psychotherapist who reinvented herself as a writer. After reading literature about dating abuse that only had stories about people in opposite-gender relationships. She thought it might be easier for readers to absorb the material in her book if they had something to identify with. Thus, the main feature of her book is same-gender characters telling about their involvement in abusive relationships. They introduce the topic of each chapter with their thought-provoking stories. Additionally, she believes her book is the only one written especially for youth who are LBGTQ. Chandler, a Iowa transplant, lives with her partner Pat and Animal Companions in Sacramento, California.

    I wrote this book as a way of playing it forward. As a former psychotherapist on a mobile crisis unit, I have worked with many victims of domestic abuse and learned a lot from them. I learned that people who are in abusive relationships sometimes do not know, or are not ready to acknowledge, they are in such a relationship. I also learned how very frightening, confusing, and isolating it is for the victim to be caught in this web, and how it is very hard, and potentially deadly, it is to leave abusive relationships. Outing Dating Abuse is written with these things in mind.

    As a lesbian, I understand the unique
