    Part 1: Simple Present

    A verb in the Simple Present tense explains that the action is happening in the present time, right now.

    Exercise 1: Determine the correct Simple Present tense for the following.

    Part 2: Simple Present + not

    To make a sentence in negation form in the present tense, use the auxiliary "do" in the present tense + the verb.

    Exception: To form a negation with the verb be in the present tense, use the present tense of the verb be + not

    Negation (not) and contraction:

    Negation with auxiliary do

    I (subject) + do (auxiliary) + not + drink (verb unchanged) + rest of sentence.

    I do not drink coffee.

    They (subject) + do (auxiliary) + not + know (verb) + rest of sentence.

    They do not know the answer to the question.

    Present: I drink coffee with 2 sugars and 1 milk.

    Negation: I do not drink coffee with 2 sugars and 1 milk.

    Contraction: I don`t drink coffee with 2 sugars and 1 milk.

    Negation with verb be

    Present: If you for are looking Rosie, she is here.

    Negation: If you are looking for Rosie, she is not here.

    Contraction: If you are looking for Rosie, she isn`t here.

    Exercise 1: Determine the correct negation in the present tense for each sentence.

    1. The students _______________________ (walk) to school every day.
