Donna Huber is an avid reader and natural encourager. She is the blogger behind Girl Who Reads where, in addition to book reviews and author appearances, she writes the popular blogging advice series, Tips on Thursday. She has worked as a freelance publicist since 2010 assisting publishers and authors with their marketing and publicity needs. Most notably, she was the publicist for The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House edition of Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker by E. L. James. When she is not doling out blogging advice or promoting the next bestseller, she can be found spending time with family (particularly the four legged, furry members), rewatching Downton Abbey and Harry Potter, or trying to make a dent in her never ending to-be-read pile.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have been waiting for this guide with baited breath because I run an author image service, run book tours for them and work with a lot of authors as a helpful hand who do not have the funds to hire PR on even a part time basis. This guide was needed. She has talked about many of the information in this how-to piece on her blog as part of her Thursday Tipe feature posts. BUT what she did here was expand upon it and give a step-by-step easy to follow guide, and even used pictures! (Yes I am visual, I love photos).
It is laid out in steps, and in the end it even has a set of nice checklists to use as an example or even just use as is. For those of us who take a zen approach and have the organizational skills of a squirrel before winter, this is wonderful. I run tours and I found after reading it for my third time even more info. I do things differently with some of these things but have found a bunch of things that will end up saving myself and the authors time, stress and money. Everything here is useful, there isn't one poor example of how to run part of a Tour. I have been part of her blog tours as a blogger and she is in the top three of who I would grade an A because of how smoothly they are run.
This is NOT just for DIY self publishing authors, this is NOT just for bloggers and tour hosts, this is not just for tour companies or publishers, or publicists. This is one of those guides that everyone in the indie publishing industry should have on the desk to "grab", check and use for reference. If it was in print, there would be stick tabs and highlights in mine! Thanks Donna!! Great first segment, cannot wait for more DIY guides.

This is a little gem of a book, replete with information designed to help authors contemplating the world of online marketing. Many writers (myself included) are not tech-savvy, so Huber has created a clearly written guide for us.
Using methods she devised when she worked for a major publisher and for new authors such as E.L. James, Huber shows us how to prepare for a blog tour, recruit, design graphics, and run the actual events. Each chapter is carefully laid out with steps for authors new to this type of marketing.
She includes helpful links and examples to show how to create buzz around a book release, including giveaways, prizes, writing guest posts, and making button graphics that click through to the website of the writer’s choice.
For those writers who feel overwhelmed, she also adds advice on choosing a tour company, with pitfalls to avoid and ways to help select a great company.
The book takes about an hour to read at the most, but the advice within can help for years to come.
I highly recommend this book for authors about to release their first – or their fiftieth! – book.
