What Is Feedback?
It might be easier to begin by telling you what feedback is not. It is not insincere praise. It is not a five star rating. It is not a good job!

Those descriptions of feedback, common as they may be, are often misleading and can be damaging to your performance as a professional speaker. At its core, feedback is designed to highlight what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong as a presenter. It is the delicate dance between praise and criticism and the insights you gain from it should be implemented immediately in order to get your business back on the fast track to success.
Honest feedback is rare. It is open and raw and comes with no sugarcoating. It is descriptive, detailed, and intended to reinforce positive behaviors as well as change negative behaviors. Feedback can be verbal, written, electronic, or a combination of all three. Many times the feedback that turns out to be the most beneficial to us down the road stung at the point of contact. But each sting makes us stronger. Each piece of humble pie makes us better. Each shocking realization that we are not the rockstar/headliner/show-stopping/legend of a speaker we believe ourselves to be gets us one step closer to becoming just that.
