A Felon’s Introduction
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?
John Wooden
When I was a teenager in the 90’s I first realized that through a little self-development I could make a dramatic improvement in my life.
The person that had the biggest influence on me at that time about the true ability of the human mind was actually a convicted felon named Kevin Trudeau.
At the time he was promoting a book called Mega Memory, which he said he created by adopting the techniques used to improve the memory of the blind and mentally challenged.
I bought the book before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) stopped the marketing of it because they said that the claims that Trudeau were making were false and users could not achieve a photographic memory
as was advertised.
Kevin is anything but boring, and most of you have probably seen or heard of his infomercials relating to natural cures they don't want you to know about
books.
Regardless of what you think of him, I still believe that his Mega Memory book, regardless of where the information came from, has some great information in it. I highly recommend the book (not the tapes) to anyone.
If you read his Amazon.com reviews for Mega Memory you will see that what he teaches is not unique and he actually just uses techniques recycled from others.
Despite that, I still find it one of the best basic memory books because of the repetition and step-by-step drills.
I’ve used those memory techniques all through college and I think it gave me a huge advantage over other students.
Sometimes to test my ability to quickly memorize material under pressure, I would deliberately put off studying for a test until the morning of an exam, and I always had great results thanks to that book.
This is saying something, because I was the kind of student who normally started studying for an exam weeks ahead of time.
So I had to have confidence in my memorization techniques before I would even attempt such a cram session.
I bring that story up because Kevin and his book Mega Memory were my first introduction to the potential of the human mind, self-development, and increased productivity. Things I could achieve if I was just willing to reach outside of my comfort zone.
Just Outside Your Comfort Zone
Like almost anything else you want to achieve, the path to higher productivity lies just outside your comfort zone.
Like you, I’m always searching for ways to get more done in less time.
That is why for this book I happily researched deeper into many topics and even went through 6 weeks of speed reading
