    The Coma Killings

    I found the woman in an alley, sprawled on the concrete steps of a loading dock, her feet and legs in a large puddle on which floated a rainbow scum of oil. She appeared to be in her mid-twenties. Her calf-length brown woolen dress was wet from the puddle and from the drizzle that fell in tiny tickling specks. Her shoes were missing; she had probably been dragged there and they had fallen off on the way. Her dark brown hair was tangled and muddy. Her head rested on one of the steps, leaning sideways, tongue lolling out, a rivulet of drool running from the corner of her mouth
