Haddie's in Our Closet!

About this ebook
According to scientists and researchers, there are only three views of life after death possible. The first is based on observation and conjectures, made by humans or electrical devices, namely physical research or laboratory research. The second is faith based, as told by ancestors or religious books. The third is the argument that humans are not the body and for some time continue in some form after the loss of the body. Although "Haddie's in Our Closet fits the third category, it shatters many strongly held beliefs about the spirit of Man and what really happens when he dies. The book is about how he and his young family attended what seemed to be a normal wedding held at a Southern plantation outside New Orleans, Louisiana. That’s where they met “Haddie” – a one hundred and fifty year old African American nanny. Soeder doesn’t consider himself to have daily talks with spirits. It turns out that not only did he and his wife have a real paranormal experience with a ghost, but all the trappings - deep temperature drops, lights flickering and “a voice that came from nowhere!” But it didn’t stop there at the plantation! Haddie ended up following them back on the plane to Los Angeles and stayed with them for about six weeks – and believe it or not, she helped them with their kids! How she did it and what she did is all in his book. “It just broke all the rules, all the things I had been told about ghosts or spirits. But it happened and it was real, and that is why I finally decided to write my book!” You’ll find yourself pulled into the story, as it is hard-hitting and entertaining. After that, it is up to you to decide about his experience. He already has written a couple of other books, one that won two national book awards. In fact, "Haddie's in Our Closet!" has just won ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Award for 2011 in the category of Body. Mind & Spirit! Soeder’s last comment to was, “Shakespeare wrote in As You Like It – “All the world is a stage and all the men and women merely players; some have their exits and entrances.” – and then there was Haddie!”

From the age of two, Jon didn’t think having intelligent conversations with his pets and the many wild animals he encountered was anything unusual - until years later when he would relate his true stories to friends and family. “You should write a book!” was always the response...and so, he did!True Tails relates Jon’s experiences with creatures big and small, from the tiniest of insects to the largest creatures living on earth today, the majestic whales. Not a “whisperer,” but simply a friend of those who inhabit the animal kingdom, Jon shares his personal stories in the hope of raising public awareness that humans aren’t the only life forms on our planet capable of expressing thoughts and feelings, and that they deserve our admiration and protection. Thus, all of the net proceeds from each copy of True Tails sold will go to animal rights organizations.Jon is a graduate with honors with two degrees from the University of Miami. Among Jon’s accomplishments is his participation in a ninety five hundred mile Bicentennial relay run through the continental United States and years of missionary work. He currently resides in Ventura, California pursuing his art and writing. He also works with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services designing their promotional brochures and scientific publications.

...this is a charmingly quirky ghost story.
—Kirkus Reviews
Author’ Note
For those of you new to my non-fiction books about my profound and sometimes magical life this is a true story, which happened to me over twenty years ago. The full story begins much earlier with my first award-winning book, True Tails, and actually occurred toward the end of my second book, Fingers in the Light.
Ghosts have been portrayed mostly as evil spirits and ones that cause harm to others. This is a real ghost story that will warm your heart and open your mind, as it did mine.
The point is, when I met Haddie, I believed and had already met and experienced a couple of other ghosts; her wonderful story is the one I want to share with you now.

"I enjoyed reading this book and have encouraged others to read it as well. My thanks to the author for being brave enough to put his experience in writing. If you are a movie producer or know a movie producer, ask them to take a look at this story. Personally, I think it could be turned into a great movie. I don’t know the author and won’t make a penny from a movie, but I would like to see it on the big screen rated G (for the whole family) if possible." —L.O.

"After reading this book, I will use care in opening closets and turning on televisions whenever I stay at Japanese inns.
"No telling what frustrated feudal lords, wives or Samurai are in need of company! As an American ex-pat living in Japan, this book awakened fond memories of family and home in the US, and reminded me that each and every human being, alive or on another plane, hungers to be needed, remembered and appreciated. Everyone surely wonders as to the current whereabouts of Haddie. Wherever she is or whatever she has become, I hope she is happy!"—T.S.

"Jon’s stories never cease to amaze me. I too was a Topper fan as a child. But when you take that premise out of the fiction category and put it into real life, it has some amazing implications. It will make you question some of your stable datums on the afterlife, spirits and ghosts.
"Jon’s handling of the situation was heart warming and filled with kindly lessons on life.
"A good quick read of an amazing story. I can’t wait to see what happens in his next story." —C.P.
"Haddie’s In Our Closet is a truly one-of-a-kind ghost story. Warm, funny, entertaining, and reality-expanding, with characters you would like to include in your life. You’re sure to reconsider your views of the afterlife once you’ve read it.

"As one who had a few personal experiences talking to Ghosts
I found the book to be a delight. I must say Jon’s experience with Haddie was not only quite unique in its own right, it was very entertaining whether one believes in these type of experiences or not. The details were quite specific so it would be difficult not to believe there was truth in them. It’s an enjoyable read whether you consider it real or fiction at any rate." —E.B.

Foreword
With this book, J.H. Soeder continues his tradition of amazing his readers with gems plucked from his grab-basket of very out-of-the- ordinary true experiences. Who ever heard of a heartwarming, belly-laugh-provoking, reality- stretching, conscience-pricking, stereotype-busting true ghost story about a 150-year-old African American nanny ... who slept in the author’s and his wife’s bedroom closet and promised not to peek
?
Who ever heard of a pious ghost who turned on a bone-chilling deep freeze whenever you tried to turn on the TV, yet who had such insatiable curiosity about the modern world and its other marvels that she rode to work with you and plied you with nonstop questions—in front of your boss?
Better yet, who ever heard of a ghost nanny who could get your very real children to behave— indeed, completely turn their demeanor around overnight? Surely not I, before I began reading this amazing ghost story from J.H. Soeder. Shades of Nanny McPhee! With this little book you are in for a ride at the same time hilarious and poignant— and you will hear a tale scarcely believable, yet from a talented author known for his sincerity and dedication to sharing truth about spiritual matters, not to mention his sensitivity to the communications of the animal world.
It would be inconsiderate of me to include any more of what are commonly called spoilers
in this foreword, so I won’t. But I will mention one other important fact: Haddie’s mannerisms and language are not the author’s invention, but his best effort to replicate the speech of this African woman who lived and died a slave in the American South of the middle 1800s. This should never, ever be considered an attempt to stereotype, for her language and personality were pure expressions of her spirit.
This is the story of an irrepressible ghost named Haddie, who, with the help of her new friend Jon, found ways both to
