Essay Snark
Essay Snark is an MBA admissions consultant who is sometimes amused and often appalled by what candidates write in their MBA essays to top bschools. Essay Snark shares others' mistakes, so you don't make admissions directors laugh or, worse, want to hurl when they read your essays. If you, intrepid applicant, want to have your essay reviewed by Essay Snark (and posted anonymously - yes everyone will see it), email it to gethelpnow(at)essaysnark(dot)com. Did You Know?
Here are a few lesser-known factoids about UC-Berkeley's graduate business school to start things out.
Berkeley puts an emphasis on quantitative ability in their review of an applicant. This needs to come through in many facets of your application. We discuss this throughout this Guide.
Berkeley also cares a lot about culture and school fit.
To be successful in the application process, you need to understand their Defining Principles and be able to articulate how you have demonstrated them in your life. You'll hear more about that in the pages within.
Berkeley has four admissions rounds, which is good for the applicant. You are encouraged to apply when you're ready
and this gives you more opportunities to be ready.
Berkeley takes longer to review applications and render decisions within each round. This is certainly good for the applicant, as it means that they are giving each application careful consideration. It's not so good for you, in that the decision cycle doesn't match up to other schools. A prudent Brave Supplicant should plan on applying to other schools' subsequent rounds, even after submitting in one of the earlier Berkeley rounds, simply because you won't have your answer back from Berkeley until those other schools' deadlines will have passed.
The Evenings & Weekend MBA part-time program at Berkeley will accept the GRE, but the full-time program will not. You should just take the GMAT if you're serious about bschool. See the EssaySnark blog for a detailed discussion of the GRE versus the GMAT, and later sections of this Guidefor more information on the differences between the Berkeley MBA options (e.g., it's easier for qualified candidates to get an offer from the EWMBA program, however not everyone is an appropriate fit for
