“Hi, My Name is Cheryl Broome and I am a pastor and a life coach.”In every walk of life and everywhere you go you will meet new people. When I meet new people the first question nearly always asked is, “What do you do?” I love and I hate this question. I usually hesitate when answering because my answer often makes people uncomfortable and nervous. When I say, “I am a United Methodist Pastor and Certified Professional Life Coach” right away I notice the sweat forming and I can see their eyes shift uneasily back and forth as if looking for a quick escape. Inexplicably and for reasons beyond me, I have found that just the mention of the job of “life coach” makes people really nervous. I really don’t get it because a Professional Certified Life Coach is someone who will mentor, guide and provide personal encouragement to help you uncover lost dreams, goals and life passion. A life coach is basically a blend of many varied interesting and important vocations all blended together. It’s a job much like a detective who will search and search to help you uncover dormant life dreams. It’s a job much like a doctor who works to uncover unhealthy trends and helps resolve illness. It’s a job like a wilderness guide who leads through the wilds, brush and unwieldy terrain toward new paths and great adventures. It’s a job like a guidance counselor who patiently listens and looks for signs of life as they stoke the fires of imagination and success for every person. It’s a job like a pastor who listens and loves and supports and provides a safe place to share stories of life and hope. It’s a job like that of a financial service provider who works to put together goals and plans to help you live attain financial success. A life coach is just that and much more as they work to create personalized goals that will produce positive continual forward momentum. Certified professional coaches make it their personal goal to identify each client’s personal goals for success. What’s so scary about that? As a life coach I specialize helping people get unstuck and provide a safe place for them to tell their story. Together we find ways to move forward and begin a new chapter in their story. People often feel stuck in life and unable to get out of their unhappy place. It has been my pleasure and honor to have been involved in the lives of so many people over the past 25 years! My passion and life work is to help people get unstuck and make positive transformations in their lives. It all started when I worked at a large insurance company in San Antonio. Every morning people gathered at my desk to check in and seek guidance and counsel. My bosses (not too happy) called it “the breakfast club.” I stayed at that company for nearly 15 years and deeply enjoyed the chance to work with people one-on-one, to help them reach their fullest potential. IWhen corporate business life did not fulfill my hearts desires I got serious about the spiritual life entering seminary at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary where I graduated with a Masters in Divinity in 2002. My emphasis was on pastoral / clinical pastoral care. I was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 2006. Since that time I have worked with churches and individuals to help them to live into their very best selves and connect more fully with God. Now I lead seminars, retreats and I have been a guest speaker / preacher for many churches, religious organizations and retreats. I often teach classes “Go Within or Go Without” and “Self-Directed Life” where I help people to go deeper into their lives in order to live more fully. I also write books to help people realize their dreams, goals and desires. I also help individuals through one-on-one confidential and caring life coaching.
