About this ebook
Britty’s twenty-four year old daughter just had another ‘bout’ last week, this time she tossed her boyfriend’s air conditioning unit out the window and onto the hood of his car three stories down... while he was sitting in it.
With her daughter tucked away for a few months in a behavioral health hospital, Britty decides to rent a house on the island and spend some well earned time with her sister, and away from her daughter. She soon finds herself charmed by the sexy retired doctor next door. Doc Gentry’s quirky ways make her laugh, which is something she hasn’t done in quite some time.
However, when his unusual behavior shocks her, she quickly discovers that Gentry’s friends think he has a sinister secret that he’s harboring . He’s sold his family home downtown and retired from his practice and now does basically nothing.
Britty’s sister urges her to get to know him, and in that effort she accepts his invitation to a private party. Arriving late, she walks into an affair that is way out of hand, and all hopes of getting to know him seem to vanish into thin air.
But Doc Gentry’s persistence finally wins her over, and he offers a quiet dinner to make up for the party debacle. There Britty stumbles across his secret, but it’s way too close to home for her. It’s only after a night of soul searching that she decides to let go of her own problems and take on his. Can she save him?

I pulled into the realtor’s parking lot at quarter till eleven. Only forty-five minutes late. Becky would be impressed.
Well good morning sunshine!
she said when I stumbled into her office and plopped with exaggeration into the chair across from her assistant earnestly. It’d been since Aunt Mildred’s funeral that I’d been back. And when was that, twelve years ago? It seemed like an awfully long time to be away from one’s homeland.
So how’s the devil’s daughter this morning? Don’t even try to lie and say you haven’t called to find out.
My sister could be a real pain in the ass sometimes - okay most of the time. But blood is blood after all, and she’s all I’ve got. Well, and the devil’s daughter of course.
It was only when I exhaled deeply that I realized I’d been trying to hold as much of the salt air in my lungs for as long as possible. During the two hour drive I battled with no less than twenty near interstate turn arounds that tempted me to just go home. The nurse said she was fine. Up at breakfast, and has already taken a shower. That’s good, right?
I asked.
Becky shrugged, "Who knows? But if that’s all I had to do in a day I sure wouldn’t be looking for
