This is gut bustlingly funny.Beatiful drawings coupled with sad dark humor. Just remember you are going to die sometime, you might as well die laughing.

Caustically funny. I thought it would be a tiny bit depressing but no, I just laughed. That may make me a terrible person. I'm okay with that.

Avery Monsen and Jory John's All My Friends Are Dead is the existential nihilistic book you've been waiting for. It begins with a careful examination of the meaninglessness of the universe and life, even unto our most basic connections with those around us, before encouraging readers to create their own meaning in order to find fulfillment. The simplicity of the story makes the message all the more significant and Monsen's illustrations capture the underlying pathos at work. The book will entertain and provoke more than a few laughs, but readers are just attempting to laugh off their own discomfort with the futility of existence prior to the journey of self-discover that will enable to them find something worth living for. Truly, this is schadenfreude at its best.

Very entertaining and I bought it after accidentally flipping to the page where a ventriloquist gets friendly with his dummy. This is worth reading and owning because it manages to slip some genuine philosophical thought into the sparse story regarding friendship and death. The illustrations are of a high quality and my only true complaint is the book is manufactured in China, but it's still great.

This highly existential work of morbid satire was masquerading as something far more innocent nestled among the children's books at Target. Needless to say, its hilarious portrayal of ennui and mortal dread from the varying perspectives of dinosaurs, pirates, trees, and a host of other sorry saps abandoned and in wait for the reaper. A crack up. Your kids will love it.

All My Friends Are Dead by Avery Monsen and Jory John has been making the rounds at our local BookCrossing group. It looks like a children's book but it's aimed at adults. The book starts with a dinosaur lamenting that all his friends are dead. It goes from there. There are things like a milk jug saying that all his friends are expired.Along with the silly observations on life and death are illustrations reminiscent of Mo Willem's easy chapter books. Although designed for adults, it does appeal to children. Both of mine have read it and laughed at it.

All of my friends should read this book.

Met both authors of this book at Comic-con 2012. They are both hilarious, and super nice! This book is not for kids, but it's still great for my coffee table.

Rather than repeating what everyone else here has said in the positive reviews, I'll just add that this book is such a fun little satire and it BLOWS MY MIND how many people miss that point. "It was short!" "It used silly rhymes!" "It was childish!" No kidding, guys. If your model is children's books, those are things that are going to happen. I can only imagine that these are the same people who wander over to the other side of their crappy chain bookstore and "correct" the punctuation in "Finnegan's Wake." (Please note that they will be tone-deaf enough to think I just said this book is equal to Joyce.)

Cute, pithy--a nice little stocking-stuffer or casual gift for someone with a faintly dark sense of humor.

I mean, we know people die. (And dinosaurs.) It just seems like this is time that could be better spent reading, oh, The Year of Magical Thinking or The Death of Ivan Ilyich or Being Mortal (or The Gift of Death, or The Magic Mountain ...), or spending time with your family from whom you will soon be separated for all eternity, or planting a tree.

The back of this book calls it "the saddest funny book and the funniest sad book you'll ever read", and that's true.
One page would make me laugh out loud, then I'd turn the page and say "Oh..."
This book is super funny and super depressing.
It's also really really good.
So you should read it.
Read it.
It'll take 5 minutes.

Recommended to me by my sister. She was right; it is hilarious (sad, but hilarious). I especially enjoyed the tree's journey.

Hilarious. Brilliant. Little incisive cartoons that had me guffawing in the bookstore and wishing I had a million dollars so I could by a copy for each and every one of my not-dead friends.

First of all if you're looking at getting this for a young kid...don't. This is not a kids book, unless you're looking at introducing death to them in a humorous/unusual way. What this book is, is a short, funny, dark look at how death can come to everyone and everything...even the inanimate. Each page features a different character with a short statement about how death has impacted them, including a sock bemoaning its missing mate and a plant asking you to stop buying its friends if you're just going to kill it. Its a quick read, but it will have you laughing quickly and cheer you up on those days that you're feeling down.

An example of a rare and captivating species, the adult picture book. It'll definitely make you chuckle (in a sad way). And the ending put into words the kind of thoughts I've been pondering for years.

The blurb says 'the saddest funny book and the funniest sad book you'll ever read' and it couldn't be truer. Such a fantastic little read.

Short, amusing book that would serve as a delightful coffee table book for the slightly morbid. Maybe I need to get a coffee table now.

A little morbid, but absolutely adorable and just plain hilarious. I saw a blog about the book online and immediately ordered it from Chronicle Books. I loved each and every page, and definitely think this is a fantastic adult "kids book."
