Fun and fast read. The ending was a little abrupt, but maybe just because I could have kept on reading. Love this author's voice.

Mark was seriously hot. I loved the sparks between him and Rainny. They were well matched.

Shalvis brought her trademark humor and wit to the story. The characters drew me in. I didn't want to put it down.

I love Jill Shalvis. I loved this book. Quick read with great characters. And although it *was* a quick read, it didn't feel like a throwaway. I felt like the relationship was well developed, the HEA earned.

Fabulous! Jill Shalvis hockey = Sandy loves it! I don't think I've ever read a Shalvis I didn't like. This book had great characters, some laugh out loud moments and enough heat to set off the smoke detectors. I dunno, maybe mine are just cheap. Great read!

Nice humanitarian story with lots of steamy scenes but sometimes it felt like there was too much internal debate about feelings and not enough action. Rainey works at a Rec Center desperately in need of funds. Coach Mark and a couple of his hockey players donate their time.

Returning to his home town of Santa Rey, NHL coach Mark Diego intends on helping out with reconstruction after a devastating fire. He soon discovers that this includes helping out at the local rec centre where Rainey Saunders, his childhood friend and the woman he rejected at the tender age of 16, is now the sports coordinator. When Rainey and Mark meet again, tempers flare and sparks fly, but can old hurts heal as quickly as their passion burns?

A sweet and spicy story with, thankfully, a minimum of sports description.

Mark and Rainey’s encounters are scorching hot and although they have some angsty scenes, these do not overwhelm the story.

Rainey is justifiably wary of allowing Mark back into her heart, but he is so sexy that she cannot resist him for very long. Mark rapidly realizes that Rainey is the best thing that ever happened to him and it is really fun to watch him grovel and squirm to get back in her good graces.

Aside from the romance, Mark’s scenes with the teenage girls and their issues with clothes, boys and sex are hilariously funny and only add to both his charm and that of the book as a whole.

My one small caveat is that the ending feels rushed and could have had an epilogue. All in all, another hit from Jill Shalvis.

It’s not a secret I love Jill Shalvis' books; when I saw this book in NetGalley I knew I have to read it. Time Out was a fun and sexy read, but one that let me with a feeling that something was missing.
If you know me you know I love Alpha heroes and Mark is the epitome of one, even though I loved his alpha personality sadly sometimes his treatment of Rainey felt a little bit high-handed, so much that I wanted to hit him on the head more than once. He thought he could come in her life and pushed his way in without care of her feelings, he cancelled her dates and made decisions for her that he shouldn't have made. Ok, no everything is bad about him, he is also caring, sensitive and all around he has a good heart. I really liked that despite now being famous and rich he hasn’t forgotten his humble origins.

I also liked Rainey, she is sweet, funny, smart and very caring and protective of her friends and the kids at the recreation center.
The chemistry between Mark and Rainey is there since the beginning. Rainey was sure of what she felt for Mark, she has been half in love with him all her life and every man she has dated she has unconsciously compared him to Mark and of course they all fell short because non of them were Mark. So now that he’s back regardless of her feelings she tried to act thinking with her head but her treacherous hormones betrayed her more than once. And in Mark’s case he is very attracted to Rainey but he is just thinking about living the moment, he lives a very crazy life, moving city to city from hotel to hotel. He thinks not woman would put up with his lifestyle, and here is where I had a problem with the story, this was Mark’s biggest concern and it was a topic they never talked about; they go back and forth countless times without talking about their real concerns or what was real important for their relationship to work out, this let me feeling unsure about their future together.

Time Out is perfect for a beach read or one of those days when you want something fun and easy to read. As with all of Mrs. Shalvis' books the writing is spotless. If you are looking for a fun, sexy quick read with a very alpha heroTime Out is a book I’m sure you would enjoy.

This was a fun book. I've only read one other Blaze book before, and it was just okay--but since this was a Jill Shalvis book (and had hockey players in it--bonus!), I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did! The characters were well-written and believable, for the most part--Mark had a bit of a quick turnaround at the end (you knew he would, but in general the whole ending was a bit on the abrupt side--I kept trying to turn the last page on my ebook but it just wouldn't go, being the last page), but really that's the only complaint I have with the book at all, and really, it's not much of one. I think almost any woman can connect with Rainey's experience in this story--the high school crush that you totally embarrassed yourself over in your youth--though perhaps not everyone gets to make up for it years later. And what a making up it was! Those scenes were both steamy and fun. Overall, this was a great way to spend a few hours...feel free to write some more in this line, Jill!

3 1/2 starsI know this is intended as a "blazing hot" guilty pleasure and as far as "hot" scenes go, it didn't disappoint. What was disappointing though, was the length and depth. Time Out has a good plot (one of my personal favs) - a blast from the past crush (Mark), older, wiser, no longer concerned with four year age difference and finding his boyhood FRIEND all grown up and very sexy indeed, but he's living a crazy, busy life with no room for a committed relationship; the girl who had said crush (Rainey) not wanting to go back down that road and get hurt again. There is even an excellent sub-plot - overindulged, spoiled athletes (and coach(es)) being taken down a few pegs, giving to the community, and being genuinely good role models, for a change. The characters were also nicely built up. Virtually everyone mentioned, from Mark and Rainey (male and female lead, respectively), to the two goofball, bad boy, professional hockey players (James and Casey), to the lady (sixty-something Celia Anderson) who owns and runs the local motel (The Welcome Inn) - while watching her soaps with a fan blowing on her full blast, was created enough to be cared about - as much as needed to move the story forward. The only flat, lifeless characters being the briefly glimpsed, female neighbor (Stacy) and the four, never seen, "bad boy" teenagers - and while they certainly could have been given more depth without too much work, they're lack of depth didn't detract from the engagement of the plot. **Hmmm... actually, I just realized that Rainey's family could have used a bit more life as well... But, I guess, since it took me this long to think of that, it wasn't too great a detriment to the overall enjoyment of the story.Everything built up splendidly... to a far too rapid, short ending... Given the fun, sexy plot and interesting sub-plot, I would have liked to see a much more detailed wrap-up. ***SPOILER ALERT***We didn't even get to see the stupid game they were all working toward throughout the whole book. There was no mention of how much money the game or the auction brought in nor what that money made possible; no mention of how Mark, suddenly, planned to make a relationship work with his busy lifestyle and crazy schedule; no mention of how the Ducks and Mammoths made nice at the end of the big game to save their image; no mention of how Sheree and her mom were affected by the final confrontation between her dad and Rainey; no mention of how Ramon, Mark and Rick's dad, took the news of his son's putting down roots in their hometown, Santa Rey... that is, if that's actually what the end was supposed to be implying... Which we don't know for sure, because there was no mention of it...Basically, everything was "wrapped up" in less than ten pages... unsatisfying.

Review: Time Out by Jill Shalvis 4 STARSI liked the story line a lot. It is a Harlequin Blaze so their were the love scenes that I skipped over.Rainey works at a summer rec league in a poor part of town that was made worse by summer fires. Fires destroyed a few of the ball fields and lots of homes too.Rainey is having a fund raser car wash and most of left when she gets a bucket of water meant for a teen, when a big fancy truck pulls in. Mark Diego NHL head coach and two of his players.Mark realizes that its Rainey under the had, glasses and he flirts. Rainey had a crush on him when she was 16 and sneeked into his apartment at collage but he was with a girl. After the Stanley cup final two of Mark's players got into a fight with the other team players in a bar fight. The two coaches got together and for their punshment they would volunteer and coach youth summer leagues and than have them play each others teams earning more money for the programs of the coaches home towns.Mark's brother Rick was in charge of the rec program and is Rainey's best friend growing up and now her boss.Casey Reynolds & James Vasquez are the youngest players on Mark's team and agreed to do anything to stay on the team. So they were doing construction durning the day and coaching rec teams. Mark and his players where in a motel out in the sticks with no extras at all.Mark was off thinking about Rainey at a planning meeting instead of listening and he volunteered to coach girls softball team. Casey and James got the boys teams.Mark & Rainey have a lot of heat and Mark chases off the guys she is trying to date. Mark used to always having his way and wants to take things day by day. Rainey wants it to be just when she wants to get physcal doesn't want to expect things from Mark. Mark likes relationships to be day by day.I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest reviews from Netgalley.02/19/2012 Harlequin Blaze

This is a story about people who met at the wrong time in both their lives and have a chance for a do-over now. Rainey had a crush on Mark when she was sixteen and he was twenty. When she goes to act on it, she finds him with another girl and runs off. He chases after her and finds her soon enough to keep her from being raped by the guy she chose in a moment of hurt. This embarrassed her completely and she liked avoiding him until he left town. He hadn't even recognized her crush and just saw her as a friend of his brother's. He went off to college and became a hockey coach. He came back occasionally and, as she grew up, he began to appreciate her much more. Now they are spending time together because Mark is back home shepherding two of his superstar players as they do community service to make up for a stupid bar fight. Rainey is now in charge of the athletics at the community center where Mark and his players are volunteering. Sparks fly immediately between them. Rainey realizes that she had been comparing every man to him for years. But he is thinking that he isn't much of a catch because he is so busy coaching a professional hockey team. It takes a while and lots of hot sex before they give each other a chance and find a way to compromise. This was a sweet, funny, hot romance that was a perfect way to spend an evening. A great escape! I loved the sparring between them. Everyone around them could see that they were meant for each other but both of them were too stubborn to see it. Or, maybe, they were just too frightened to take a chance on love.
