      Burning Passion

      Passion is a relentless pursuit of a particular aim. We watch politicians on the television get fired up about things that our national leaders are doing. We read in history class of movements being founded out of a simple, stubborn-like spirit. Passion pushes us to do things we would never think about doing otherwise. It does not care what the consequences are. It does not take into consideration the costs. It’s all in from start to finish. Maybe you’re passionate about the sport you play, music, friends, family, or something else. Maybe you're passionate about many things.

      We find the Apostle Paul blinded by a light in the New Testament. This was the day he met Jesus. Paul literally was struck blind by His presence. I would argue to say that though his eyes healed after some time, his blindness never went away. His vision for spreading the hope of Jesus to all nations was unstoppable and eventually cost him his life. He was blind to all else but the mission of Christ.

      Jesus’ drive wasn’t much different from Paul’s. It also cost Him his life. Jesus never held back when someone needed help. He even broke the law to make sure his friends were fed and to make a stranger better. Jesus knew the full cost of His passion. His aim was love that came from an authentic heart. Jesus could care less what others thought about Him as long as He was able to serve those who needed help. He had a great passion for people that is unmatchable. This led Him so far as to die on a cross. The sentence was treason and all because the people wanted to crown a servant as King.

      We read in the book of Acts that the Church turned the world upside down. Their aim was in line with that of Jesus’ and they were ready to take on the consequences too. They saw what Jesus did and they believed it had power. They were all in. Are we all in for Jesus’ cause? We find them caring for the poor, taking in orphans and widows. Those that were once in need were no longer in need. It was because love drove them to care for one another no matter what that might mean. Are we willing to sacrifice everything to love one another?

      The passion we find in the Bible was driven by the love we saw from God. It was all learned from Him. We see its power reaching from Jerusalem 2,000 years ago and into your heart right now. It is relentless and pursues unconditionally. It is fearless and cares nothing about the cost. It is redemptive, pulling broken lives out of the dirt and placing them on high. It is life transforming and is capable of changing the world with just a little bit of passion.

      Questions:

      2. What is God most passionate about? Share a piece of Scripture that backs your idea up.

      3. If you were to employ love in every area of your life, would there be consequences?

      Challenge: Pray that God would challenge you over the next few weeks. Pray He would grab hold of your heart and make you passionate about what He is passionate.
