In short, mindfulness mediation is a great tool for the whole person to utilize toward personal and spiritual growth. Mindfulness is genuinely living life in this very moment.

    Chapter 1 – What Is Mindfulness Meditation?

    Before, the term meditation was used to define several religious and introspective practices. Today, the medical community uses such term to define various introspective practices performed to improve the quality of life.

    The term mindfulness originates from the Pali word sati and Sanskrit word smirti which mean attention, awareness, and remembering. The term represents both the psychological state of open awareness and the meditation one performs to achieve such state.

    The Definition of Mindfulness

    The 1970s was a turning point for the practice of mindfulness. Many scholars brought mindfulness to the awareness of the medical community, as well as of the general public. Given this fact, many definitions are associated with it.

    A widely accepted definition came from Jon Kabbat-Zinn, one of the few people who first studied mindfulness and advocated its use as a treatment for a host of illnesses. He described mindfulness as paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. Nyanaponika, German Buddhist monk and scholar, sees mindfulness as the clear and single-minded awareness of what actually happens to us and in us, at the successive moments of perception (1972). Nat Hanh, a well-known Vietnamese Buddhist and meditation master, believes that mindfulness is the act of "keeping
