About this ebook

After an embarrassing stint on a reality-TV music competition years ago, Riley vowed never to sing again. Now she's behind the scenes, working at the prestigious Sound Sync recording studio, and life is looking up. But then Garrett Jamieson, the oldest brother in the famous Jamieson brothers band, crashes into her world.

Garrett has hit rock bottom, and he is desperate to reinvent himself. After calling in a few favors, he ends up working at Sound Sync to learn the ropes of record producing from the industry's best. And he can't believe his luck when he discovers that Riley has been keeping a secret—she is an amazing singer. By producing her album, he's sure to top the record charts again. But Garrett is forced to use every trick in his arsenal to persuade the sassy girl to record.

Riley refuses to sing—or even entertain the thought of it—and sparks fly as Garrett finally meets his match. But in the heat of the moment, one stolen kiss changes everything. Will Riley be the first person to finally rein Garrett in, or will Garrett succeed in getting Riley back under the spotlight?

I went into this story blind. I hadn't read the first two books... But since this was considered a standalone in a series, I thought, "what the heck, it sounds good." I think maybe I should have read the first two books. Even in standalone series, there is background in each book that truly is vital to each book. I felt a little lost in this book at times...

With that being said, the story is a good story. It's told well. The tug and pull in this book kept me reading. The characters relationships are inviting and engaging.

I usually enjoy YA books, and I really did enjoy this book. However, there was something missing for me. I am not sure what it was. I felt a disconnect. Maybe it was because I hadn't read the beginning of the series. So, that is what I plan to do. I plan to read the first two books, then reread this one. I don't feel it fair to the author that I write a full review on this book until I have read the whole series.

This is the third book in Stanton’s series about the (fictional) boys in the famous Jamieson Brothers band and the girls with whom they get involved. This book focuses on Garrett Jamieson, who, at 22, is the oldest of the three brothers. Garrett still has a chip on his shoulders about the decision by Peter and Adam to take a break from the band. He’s at loose ends, drinking too much and getting into fights.Alternate chapters tell the story of Riley Parks, 18 and working at Sound Sync Studio, where she hopes to learn the production side of making music. When Riley was 13, she competed on a reality TV show for singers, and she lost. She never recovered from the humiliation and scorn that followed, but she loves being around music, so this job is rewarding for her. Just as Riley gets an opportunity to take a shot as an assistant producer, her place is usurped by Garrett, whose dad called in a couple of favors to get him the job. Garrett thinks Riley is just there to get him coffee, and the two hate each other from the start. Garrett, who acts like a spoiled rich kid, has no idea how much Riley needs this job, or why. Garrett is only out for himself. However, soon Garrett discovers Riley can sing - really sing, and he wants to produce an album with her (albeit to restore his own celebrity status). Heedless of her wants or needs, he tries to trick her into performing. Both of them have bad surprises in store, and learn valuable lessons about what their priorities should be.Discussion: I found the writing to be a bit better in this book than in the previous ones. But some of the plot elements seemed, while not impossible, at least a stretch. For example, Riley has what must be one of the worst mothers in the universe, but Riley is well-adjusted, kind, and responsible. In addition, Garrett’s total turnaround at the end of book seemed a bit unrealistic. Nevertheless, I know that outcome will appeal to fans of the series, such as fans of One Direction, who love these books.Evaluation: The idea of a romance with a member of a boy band will be very appealing to at least some tween readers. Note: Although this is number three in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: He is trying to find a new path in life, and she is hiding an amazing talent. Together they are going to make things happen or drive each other nuts!Opening Sentence: “Garrett’s head pounded, and not from the hangover that would greet him with the sunrise, but from being slammed against the wall.”The Review:So, this is the third book, but for those of you who haven’t read this series no worries, no spoilers from me as this is first one I have read! Under the Spotlight is the story of Garrett Jamieson, the oldest brother in a trio group the Jamieson’s. Okay this may be spoilerly so don’t look, the group has broken up and Garrett is adrift searching for something else to do with his life. He knows he wasn’t the most talented member of the group so going solo isn’t for him. His dad suggests producing and calls in some favors for Garrett and off to Chicago he goes.Riley is starting her first full-time job, a favor that was called in from a friend she met while on a reality show for singers. But only Barry, the owner of the studio, knows she was on that show! Until Garrett finds the YouTube videos from that timeframe. When one of Riley’s favorite bands shows up to do some recording and Garrett blows her cover she agrees to sing with Steven and blows everyone away. Especially when they realize she hasn’t sung in over five years.Riley’s mom causes all kinds of drama and lands Riley in a financial mess and Garrett’s solution is for Riley to record a record. Along the way they discover that they have feelings for each other, but tragedy strikes and all is left hanging in the balance. I know I am horrible, but I want you to read it and not tell you everything!I loved this book, it was great! Drew me right in and even though I haven’t read the other two books it’s clear that each book focuses on a brother, so I wasn’t missing out on much by not reading the first two! However, I plan on reading the first two as soon as I can. I love good romances and this is a good romance. Riley and Garrett of course start off on the wrong foot but they really take the time to know each other and interact with each other before they even begin kissing!Riley is fiery and completely unafraid to put superstar Garrett in his place. They really balance each other out and it makes the book great! Bonus if you love music this is the book for you! I really actually wanted to hear the singing! So if you haven’t read any of these books, what are you waiting for…go forth and get them!Notable Scenes:“The chick with red hair and cute little diamond nose had been drilling lasers at his back the whole time.”“Gee, maybe stealing her chance to be assistant engineer the other day, or his big announcement that he planned to produce her records.”“No way was this little flit of a girl going to best him.”“Everyone she worked with seemed to fall in love with her.”“And without thinking, he leaned forward and kissed her.”“He captured her mouth and rewarded her with long, lingering kisses.”FTC Advisory: HarperTeen provided me with a copy of Under the Spotlight.
