      PARCHMENT CRAFT

      THIS name has been given to a very recent and fascinating hobby which has grown up out of actual lampshade making. While lampshades from Sheepskin, Eggshell, Crackle, Embossed, Oiled and Polka Dot parchments, and other strong, stiff waterproof materials can be made, similar materials may be used for handicraft work. Oiled and sheepskin parchments are specially recommended for this as they are very strong and durable in use and they are also washable. This is a consideration when making and using such items as table mats, serviette and doyley holders and similar articles.

      In the frontispiece, an example of ornamental bottle covering is shown. This work was carried out with Cloud imitation sheepskin parchment as a background, the thatching and decorative work being added using Pink, Pale Green and Cherry Red parchments which make up a complete harmony of colour and design. Although such work is purely ornamental, the covering of bottles is indeed a handicraft on its own. This work may be carried out in conjunction with table lamp making. Artists will find
