    CHAPTER ONE

    The wind blew through Ashe's short cropped hair. It was a mix of colors, spraying about like a wild rainbow when the wind took it. She clutched her denim coat close with one hand and her books in the other. She was lucky the one strap over her shoulder was strong enough to hold it up. She was thankful she sprung for the smallest laptop possible.

    Ashe! She heard a male voice call.

    Ashe turned around, struggling not to lose all her possessions to the wind. Running towards her was Dr. James, her computer science teacher. His slender frame was covered up by baggy jeans and a logoed t-shirt. A lab coat swung in the breeze behind him. He held himself up by his knees and took in a deep breath.

    Ashe regarded him with a raised eyebrow. She hoped he wasn't going to ask her out. She'd already had to decline two of her professors, both of which had leveraged grades against her. Thankfully they were high enough that it would be impossible for them to fail her now. Even so, she's begun recording any conversations she'd have with teachers and switched on the voice memo feature poem.

    Yes? she asked, waiting for him to stand back upright.

    Dr. James stood up, his face flush embarrassment. He fished through his handbag and retrieved a thick stack of paper, bound together. You forgot your paper in class. You left before I could give it back.

    Ashe blinked in surprise. Oh, I'm sorry. She took it and looked on the front page. There was an A stamped on the front and a smiley face drawn in pen in the corner.

    Thanks. She said, stuffing the paper in between her stack of books.
