Chapter 1
An absolute riot of color greeted Missygirl the calico cat one brisk autumn morning as she looked out the window of the car she was cruising in with the big guy. She was comfortably wrapped around his neck and could see everything really good. The big guy had promised Missygirl a special treat and now he was delivering the goods. They were moving leisurely down an old twisty curvy rollercoaster style two lane Michigan country road just looking around and enjoying the view. And what a view! The entire landscape around them was awash with so many different colors in so many vibrant shades that visual overload was an unavoidable consequence and pleasantly so!
Many of the trees and bushes in the area were going to drop their leaves soon but first each leaf performed an amazing transformation by altering its appearance from green to one or more other colors. Entire trees would change color seemingly overnight. An individual tree would change color without any regard for its neighbor even among trees of the same type. This haphazard delivery system was responsible for all the scattered colors blushing the countryside.
It looked like a rainbow had detonated leaving imprecise splotches of color everywhere. Nothing had been left untouched. This annual color change was in full swing across the entire country and was currently at peak where Missygirl lived. Mild weather had extended the viewing time this year into a month long cornucopia of color just waiting to be seen in all its splendor!
Riding in the car was an unusual experience for Missygirl and she was enjoying herself immensely! She had the big guy all to herself and one of the greatest scenes on earth passing by just outside the window! The trees lining both sides of the road had long branches meeting in the middle overhead creating a kaleidoscopic tunnel effect many miles long. Passage through this conduit made Missygirl feel like a privileged traveler sailing through a stable wormhole whose exit had to be an even more magical place!
Sure enough an enchanting vista was soon revealed as they entered a wide interstate highway where, unbelievably, even more colors were visible both near and far! Missygirl’s beautiful green eyes could not see the colors quite as sharply as the big guy’s eyes but she was still getting the full impact mentally via the special hook-up she shared with him. The numerous puffy white clumpy cotton ball clouds strongly accentuated the intense blue of the sky while the profusion of green and brown background shades at ground level contrasted beautifully with the myriad colors of the trees covering the ground like a blanket wherever there were no farm fields.
