The Poet - J Asheley Brown

    A Beautiful Sadness

When you hear the word sadness

your mind immediately paints a picture

of sorrow, despair, hard times and suffering.

In this world, suffering is inevitable.  During these times, these dark days, it is expected.

A flower or a plant needs the sunlight to flourish and bloom.

There are very few flowers that can thrive in the dark, creepy gloom.

But that same flower also needs the rain to fall.

    Roots extended

    Drinking moisture

    Drinking life

We are like that flower, that plant

Needing both the sun and the rain

    Suffering is necessary

    It proves the character

    Sadness will come

    But we can smile again

    Are you Love-strong?

My strength is determined by my capacity to love...

Each new dawning, each new day

Brings another chance to exercise this ability, this opportunity...

    And, yes, sometimes I don’t want to utilize....this gift?...perhaps...

Cause it takes energy to love something and especially someone...

    Oh, yes, someone....

I’m so glad God teaches me how to love

And how to stretch that muscle and put it to good use...

He shows me how to do 50 reps of turning the other cheek

When someone says something rude to me and I want to retaliate...

He shows me how to do 100 stomach crunches of taking it all in

When the storm has blown into my life, all hell has broken loose

And I can’t find any shelter anywhere...

He’s right there spotting me when I’m trying to lift 225
