About this ebook
Since the suicide of his younger brother, Julien has burrowed away from life, turning his back on family and friends. His only human contacts are the denizens of a downtown Boston homeless shelter where he works the graveyard shift. One in particular — Rosie, an Irish “hag” — helps guide Julien through a particularly dark night, as he traverses the dim caverns and blind curves of the human spirit. The single night is filled with flashbacks, interactions with shelter transients, and Irish storytelling, that Julien hopes against hope might help him find some kind of resolution and purpose.
Timothy Quigley deftly interweaves Celtic mythology, Christian dogma, street smarts, New Age drunk talk and mad men’s ravings, to create a deeply compassionate portrait of a jaded, disillusioned man’s struggle to get his life back on track.
"[Timothy Quigley’s fiction]... is wonderful... buoyant and lively and crackling with fascinating energies and tensions.” ~ Dr. James D'Agostino, author of Nude with Anything and Editor of The Chariton Review

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Julien, the troubled protagonist in Kissing The Hag, has endured a great deal. His father walked out on the family when he was young and one of his brothers is dead. For reasons of his own, he has given up a well paying job to work in a shelter which comes with its own challenges. The author skillfully brings to life those who come to the shelter. Julien's relationships to the characters are intriguing. But, it is one woman in particular, Rose, who makes the greatest impact on Julien's life. She knows what is truly meaningful in life and this is a gift she tries to share with Julien. The story explores love, loss and the complexity of human relationships. It is beautifully written and memorable, as well.I received this book for free from Pixel Hall Press and I give this review of my own free will.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5First, thank you to Pixel Hall Press for the opportunity to enjoy this e-book, and enjoy it I truly did!! Timothy Quigley paints an incredible picture of his life growing up in a troubled family, suicide of his brother, and subsequent job working for a Boston homeless shelter on the swing shift. His writing was so profound, that I almost felt like he may have lived this adventure – very touching descriptions of all the characters living in the home. His story, with the exception of flashbacks, covers a short 24 hour+ period; the reader feels at the end of the book like there was nothing he left out about his story – complete and unforgettable. Thanks Mr. Quigley – and I hope to read more from you soon!
