    Frugal Living - Nancy Brooks

    Introduction

Frugal living is not a new concept. Our grandparents lived frugal for many years (and they lived long too!) with great success.

To live frugal does not necessarily mean to always buy the cheapest and going without certain things. It is all about being thrifty – always being on the lookout for more cost effective ways to live your life.

Living frugal is satisfying. It is good to come back from shopping feeling good about what you have bought. It is good to know that you did not waste your money buying unnecessary things.  The sacrifices and time you will spend living frugal will definitely outweigh the benefits that you will experience.

How can I effectively put frugality first? The first thing is to recognize the effects of your finances. You may not dedicate so much time into managing your finances and practical principles for frugal living because you feel there is something more important to be done. If your finances are not under control, and you are spending more than you earn, then you are having a negative impact on every other aspect of your life. You therefore need to recognize that being frugal is your first priority.

Sometimes you will simply have to say no. If you recognize that you don’t have to take on everything and that it is okay to say no, then you will find that you are more in control of your spending and your budget.
