Gardening Hacks - Jody Ford
Introduction
Gardening is a passion that many of us enjoy. Being able to go outside and enjoy the sunshine and fine weather is a needed release for many who are cooped up inside for months at a time during the cold winter months.
When we garden we have a unique connection to nature. We go and dig through the dirt moving rocks and debris. We then place seeds within the ground and with food and water allows them to grow. At the end of the process we harvest what we have grown and can consume them with great satisfaction as well as the knowledge that we have created this item we are now eating. It is an amazing feeling.
One of the drawbacks to this process is that gardening does take time and skill. Being able to just put a seed in the ground add some water and walk away is not an option. For centuries man has been perfecting gardening and agriculture and has it down to a science which allows them to grow whatever they want in a wide variety of conditions.
In this book we will explore the world of gardening and how you can use the tips and techniques of the huge agricultural giants in your own home garden. We will also talk about the different types of foods you can create in your gardens and several different types of gardens you can create.
It is my hopes that at the end of this book you have the foundation you need to start your own gardens and if you have established gardens use this tips and tricks that I am presenting here in order to strive for success.
Chapter 1 – Introduction to Gardens and Gardening
When we think and talk about gardens the first image that goes through our heads is the typical fruits and vegetables garden that we have in our yards. Well this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to gardens. Gardens and gardening is a huge niche or area of study. When we talk about a garden we are talking about anything that we grow with our own two hands.
In this chapter I am going to talk about the different types of gardens you and others can create. We will talk about different tools that you can use and how easy it is to get started building your own gardens.
The Different Types Of Gardens
There are many different types of gardens out there. Depending on your own personal likes, dislikes and the area that you have to work with you can have a unique garden that fits a theme or a specific purpose.
Woodland Gardens
Woodland gardens are great gardens to create when you have a lot of natural land to work with. When you look at a woodland garden you will generally be in a park or a forest. Woodland gardens help emphasize the natural beauty of nature.
Tropical Gardens
Do you live in a warm or tropical climate such as Florida or California? If you do then you may want to design a tropical garden. A tropical garden has palm trees, fruit trees and a wide assortment of tropical plants. When you have a lot of space you can even incorporate water or other natural elements.
Water Gardens
Incorporating water into your gardens is a great way to add a visual pop to your landscape. When using water you can create some intricate designs and formations. You can easily have water gardens inside your home as well.
When designing a water garden make sure that it is protected from small children you don’t want to have an accident. Also you don’t want to have water gardens where mosquitos and other water insects will become a problem. Check your local code enforcement office to see if a water garden is something that would be viable in your area.
Japanese Garden
When it comes to relaxation a Japanese garden is the way to go. When we talk about Japanese gardens we have rock gardens, Zen gardens and a slew of other ones. When we look at Japanese gardens we have a sense of peace. If you are looking to have a relaxing getaway in your home look into creating a Japanese garden or adding in some of their elements.
Environmental Garden
Environmental gardens are gardens that help protect our environment. These gardens are generally started by community groups in order to help populate a species such as butterflies or other insects.
Urban Gardens
Urban gardens are gardens that are found in areas that have lots of buildings or other man made structures. When you have an urban garden you can find them in small park areas as well as on roof tops and on the sides of buildings.
Cutting Gardens
Cutting Gardens are gardens specifically grown in order to allow people to pick the flowers that are grown. Cutting gardens are usually created for florists and other people who sell flowers.
Children’s Gardens
Children’s gardens are gardens designed for and by children. If you have a child you can get them involved in the gardening process. Most children gardens are built on a theme or around a specific educational
