I received this book as the result of a giveaway and I must say it was a pleasant surprise. The book contains three short stories, all three are uniquely different. Her style of writing is nice and relaxing but the plot line makes you want to continue further. If I had to describe the stories themselves I would compare them to the Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock. Definitely an author to follow...I only wish the book was longer, I could read her tales over and over

Chapter One

HUNDREDS STORMED THE train the moment it arrived at the station. The anxious crowd barely waited for its screech to a halt before they began their chaotic and mad rush to board. Marley felt like a grain of sand in the sea of passengers as they pushed and squeezed their way through the doors.

Wafts of burnt coffee and tobacco smoke filled Marley's nostrils, the final remnants of commuter love affairs. She looked both ways and decided to go left, only to be further jammed in. As the passengers shuffled down the central aisle, each person searched frantically for a private oasis amid the jungle, even if just a seat.

Marley Walker wasn't searching for anything. She just continued to navigate her way through each car until she found a vacant one in the far rear of the train. A flutter of excitement at the quiet alone time took away her angst. She could finally get some downtime. College was exhausting, as it turned out. She couldn't wait to graduate so she could get a real job, and an apartment, just like her big sister, Jenn.

Marley got comfortable in her seat and then collapsed against the window. The train ride was always too long. If it were up to her, she would be able to get back home to her sister in minutes, not hours. There was no place like home, she thought.

Marley opened the crisp hardcover and her shoulders fell in relaxation. It didn't take long for her to quickly disappear into the latest bestselling mystery novel.

Hello there, young lady.

The conductor interrupted her mental escape into the fictional world of a serial killer, and she shook slightly. Marley closed the book in haste and looked up. Yes?

I thought this car was empty until I saw the top of your head peeking up above the seat cushion. He chuckled lightly. Anyhoo, do you have a ticket for me?

Oh, right. Stupid me, Marley thought. She began rummaging through her purse until finding the crumpled ticket. She handed it to him. Marley wasn't in the mood for making conversation, and the conductor didn't seem to mind. He just thanked her, smiled, then turned on his heels and left.

She sighed, thankful she was all alone again, exactly the way she liked it. For the next thirty minutes, Marley silently devoured the murder mystery.

When she heard the sliding door to her train car open, she assumed it was the conductor passing through again. In reality, she didn't care who it was and never lifted her head from the deception ensuing on the pages below.

Even when the footsteps increased in volume as they approached her, Marley continued to read. Ignoring others was her way of warding people off in life. She did it all the time, figuring if she didn't acknowledge them, they wouldn't engage or interrupt her, and all would be right in the world.

So when the tall, dark and not-at-all-handsome man sat down right next to her, Marley jumped. It was partly out of shock and partly out of fear. The stranger sitting beside her was dinosaur old. His pale, wrinkled skin was in brazen contrast to his monochromatic black suit ensemble. What struck her as even odder were his sharp eyes. They were the color of coal. She had never seen eyes that color before. Their potency set her on
