The Magic Of Love:Heartwarming Stories For Tweens And Teens!
()
About this ebook
The book, in three parts, describes the experiences of four children between the ages of 11 and 15: Ruhi (12), Ashna (13), Veer (14) and Taarini (15). The adolescent reader may well see a bit of herself/himself in the struggles and conflicts of the four children because these are fairly common experiences that most children in their growing years go through.
With help from the ‘voices of wisdom’ around them the characters in the stories learn how to deal with each conflict successfully and effectively. With tender loving care the children are brought in touch with their own inner strength and ability to solve the various problems they encounter–be they emotional, personal, or inter-personal brought on through their interactions with others. In every story the children are gently guided towards an appropriate solution based on righteous action and basic core values.

The Magic Of Love:Heartwarming Stories For Tweens And Teens! - Ayesha Chopra
Preface
In 2014 Life Positive announced the launch of a new magazine, Life Positive Jr., for the target readership of pre-teens and adolescents. The idea was to encourage the holistic growth of children between the ages of 11 and 15 while introducing them to moral and spiritual principles early in life. I was already an occasional contributor of articles to Life Positive. The idea of a magazine for adolescents appealed immediately and I volunteered to contribute suitable write-ups to it. A stream of ideas rapidly passed through my mind eventually taking the form of short stories aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by children in their growing years.
I had never written for children before. Conceiving of stories that would appeal to adolescents and writing them within the stipulated word limit was an undertaking that was both exciting and challenging.
My first grandchild, Ruhi, who was seven at the time became my muse. I kept her in mind as I wrote the first story. It was only natural for me, therefore, to name the protagonist, conceived as a girl of 11-12 years of age, Ruhi. To my mind, no other name fit the character as well.
After writing six episodes in the ‘Ruhi and Wise-Owl’ series I started thinking of my other three grandchildren: Ashna, Taarini and Veer. Why not use their names as well? The thought energized me, so I named the protagonist in the next set of stories ‘Ashna’. Her character, conceived as 12-13 years of age, is introduced in the last of ‘Ruhi and Wise-Owl’ episodes.
When I was in the middle of weaving ‘Ashna’s Experiences’ the editor at Life Positive Jr. asked me to make the challenges in the stories more complex in order to appeal to older children. Subsequently, the nature and intensity of the challenges faced by the characters in the later episodes of ‘Ashna’s Experiences’ and all through ‘Taarini and Veer’ are increasingly more complex, suited to their respective ages. The character of Veer is envisioned as 13-14 years old and Taarini’s as 15 years.
Once all the stories were published by Life Positive Jr. the idea of compiling them together in a book was born. The thought of leaving a legacy of human values for my grandchildren in the form of a book was rather enticing and compelling.
I didn’t have to look or go far to give the idea a concrete shape. To my joy and delight Life Positive graciously agreed to publish the book through their own publishing house for which I am eternally grateful to them (Zen Publications later took over the project from Life Positive).
My hope now is that the readers will enjoy reading the book as much as I have enjoyed writing it; that it will enrich their lives as much as, if not more than, it has enriched mine; and that they will find something of value in these stories that they could apply in their own life.
Through the pages of this book I wish you, my dear reader, courage, happiness and peace in all your endeavors. May you have all the possible opportunities to fulfill your highest potential in life.

Ruhi and Wise-Owl
The Magic of Love
Ruhi lay on her bed by the window unable to sleep. Her heart was heavy and her eyes brimmed with tears threatening to roll down her cheeks any moment. Even the full moon shining brilliantly in the cloudless sky did not cheer her up tonight. She could not understand why her best friend, Anya, had snubbed her again today. What was most hurtful was that during recess when she had approached Anya to walk together to the cafeteria as always, Anya had simply turned and walked away with another girl. Ruhi was hurt and perplexed. She didn’t know what to make of Anya’s behaviour.
Ruhi wished that her friend Wise-Owl was here now. He would know what to do.
Wise-Owl lived in a tree overlooking the backyard of Ruhi’s house. Not for nothing was he named ‘Wise-Owl’ for he was old and had gained a lot of wisdom in his lifetime. Ruhi and Wise-Owl shared a special telepathic connection. They were friends since Ruhi’s family moved into this house six years ago, shortly after Ruhi’s sixth birthday. Somehow, Wise-Owl always knew when Ruhi was troubled and had an uncanny ability to comfort her.
Ruhi gently closed her eyes, brought up a mental image of Wise-Owl and whispered softly: Oh, Wise-Owl, where are you? I need to talk to you...
Just then she heard a gentle fluttering of wings. She opened her eyes and there was Wise-Owl elegantly perched on the window sill. A little bird told me that you were in need of wise counsel!
Wise-Owl smiled.
Wise-Owl!
Ruhi exclaimed joyfully. How do you always know when to come?
Wise-Owl just smiled mysteriously. Ruhi was glad to see him and rattled off everything that had happened with Anya over the last couple of days.
Hmmmm... I can see how that must make you sad...
Wise-Owl commiserated.
I just can’t figure out what happened for Anya to behave like that. We were such good friends and now she wouldn’t even talk to me!
Ruhi lamented.
Have you thought of asking her what caused the change? Something might have upset her... may be she has a problem that you don’t know about. You can’t solve the problem unless you know the cause and you can only know that for sure if you ask her directly.
Wise-Owl sensed Ruhi’s hesitation. If you are afraid to ask her personally lest she snubs you again then write her a note,
he suggested.
Ruhi’s brow furrowed and she looked thoughtful. What if she tells me that she doesn’t want to be friends anymore? What if she doesn’t love me anymore...?
Her voice cracked.
"Well, that’s a risk you have to take. But you haven’t done anything to hurt her so don’t be afraid to approach her. And don’t imagine her reaction. Ask her fearlessly, as a concerned friend. Chances are that she is hurting in her own way, so be understanding. Give her what she wants even if it means leaving her alone for a while."
Ruhi still looked uncertain. What will I do if she says she wants to end our friendship...
her voice dropped and her eyes welled up at the thought.
Ruhi darling, sometimes the people you love don’t always love you back. And you can’t force them to, either. If Anya chooses to end the friendship then that’s her choice. All you can do is to keep your own heart pure and loving.
But if our friendship ends I will be very sad... how can I then keep my heart from hurting and remain loving?
Hmmm… there is just one thing I would suggest in that case…
What’s that?
Ruhi wanted to know.
Wise-Owl looked at her kindly and gently said Forgiveness! If Anya chooses to end the friendship then yes, you would be hurt and sad for a while but then you would also have a choice.
A choice?
Ruhi asked curiously, brushing the tears from her eyes.
Yes. You could either choose to continue to carry the burden of sadness in your heart, or you could allow the magic of forgiveness to heal it.
Ruhi listened attentively as Wise-Owl went on to explain. "You see, darling, prolonged sadness can become toxic. It can even turn into hatred or anger that can poison your heart. ‘Love’ and ‘forgiveness’ on the other hand are magical things. Even as you think about love and forgiveness their magic spreads like balm to heal
