    Introduction

Congratulations on your personal copy of The Definitive Guide to Mastering Bitcoin & Cryptocurrencies. The first five chapters will give you a solid introduction to the cryptocurrency universe, where you will be introduced to a wide range of topics from blockchain to mining. You will also acquire a broad and deep understanding of the mechanics behind one of the most popular cryptocurrencies. The emphasis shifts in the remaining chapters to practical applications for trading. You will be introduced to trading strategies along with the know-how on how to apply them. These sections are a bonus to traders of all types. Thanks for choosing this book!

Note: Throughout the book the words digital, crypto and cryptocurrency will be used interchangeably.

There is a secret private key and a public verification key. The private key is what gives you access to your account. The public key is used to send or receive money, unless you have the private key you are unable to move a coin. Your wallet contains your private key. A Bitcoin wallet is loosely the equivalent of a physical wallet. Your wallet also shows your transactions on the ledger.

    Why Bitcoin (BTC)?

Moving money or settling transactions is expensive and cumbersome. There are the obstacles of currency spreads, taxes, banking fees, and transaction days. The average foreign wire transfer fee in the United States and elsewhere is expensive. From corporate treasurers to the migrants who want to send money home to relatives, all dislike the traditional transfer fees. With Bitcoin, money can be moved for a nominal fee. This has the ability to assist billions of persons who do not have access to
