Prologue
Motijheel, Dhaka. Bangladesh.
Present day.
Though the official address is 35-42,44 Motijheel Commercial Area, the main branch of the Sonali Bank is recognized by the huge cement Shapla fountain in front called Shapla Chottor or Shapla Square. This lies in the heart of the commercial district known as Motijheel in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
Prior to amalgamation after the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, branches of National Bank of Pakistan, Bank of Bhowalpur and Premier Bank formed Sonali Bank. The building is a large edifice that sees a constant and relentless flow of customers throughout the day.
What makes this particular branch so interesting is the content in its vault of one special box. Though lost to history and through the changing of numerous owners and ill-fated attempts to sell it, little do most people realize, that particular safety box is the final resting place
