    Acknowledgement

I will forever remain indebted to God Almighty for giving me His Holy Spirit, Who I credit every bit of this work to. Who am I to be given this priceless, richest, wealthiest, and eternal Gift—the Holy Spirit? To You, O Holy Spirit, I am most grateful!

My whole life on earth and in eternity cannot thank Jesus Christ enough for paying the price for my salvation and giving me His Holy Spirit—the Spirit of the Father. To You, my Redeemer, I say a big ‘thank you’.

My many thanks go to Chuka, my sweet husband, Chuks Okezie, my elder brother in Christ, Dr Carol Anyagba, my good sister in the Lord for finding time to assist in minimising human errors in this work, my invaluable sons, Emmanuel and Samuel, for allowing me to find time for this work, and Amaka Azike, my daughter, by grace for helping out with domestic chores in the course of this work. The Lord Who has given you to me alongside this ministry of discipleship will keep and fulfil His purpose for you!

    Introduction

A lot of people have set out to follow Jesus Christ, but the waves and the currents of life have shipwrecked their journey with Him. Following Jesus Christ is a discipleship guide oriented towards grooming followers who will deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Jesus Christ to the end, no matter the cost. The ultimate goal of our Christian journey that starts here on earth is to spend eternity with Jesus Christ. This book contains inspirational teachings and guides to effective discipleship.

With the aid of a compass, the sailor never gets lost on the ocean; Following Jesus Christ is your compass to navigate effectively across the ocean of life to your destination in Christ Jesus. In these discourses, effective discipleship is appreciated from the context of following Jesus Christ in the manner that is pleasing and acceptable to Him. Starting to follow Jesus Christ is commendable; following Jesus Christ in a manner that is acceptable to Him is more commendable, but following Jesus Christ to the end is most commendable. This is the whole essence of Christianity.

Ordinarily speaking, Christianity is a platform for raising Christlike people in words and deeds. A Christian is a disciple (follower) of Jesus Christ; a disciple ought not to be in captivity to sin and Satan but should be exercising dominion over sin and Satan because he has been begotten by God! Through the teachings in this work, all followers of Jesus Christ who earnestly wish to worship the Father in Truth and in Spirit will be freed from the stronghold of sin, Satan, and failure and be enabled to enjoy the full freedom and benefits that the death of Jesus Christ has won!

Following Jesus Christ is practical, therapeutic, and illuminating! The teaching in this book is in continuum, but each work has the ability to enhance your spirituality and maturity in Christ Jesus. Following Jesus Christ is your pathway to effective discipleship with the Lord. Welcome to a sweet victorious walk and work with the Lord!

NB: All Scriptures are taken from New International Version except if otherwise indicated.

    Guide to Reading

    Following Jesus Christ

To maximise the benefits of this work, I encourage you to start reading Following Jesus Christ by welcoming and reverencing the Presence of the Holy Spirit. Please, follow the guide below; the Holy Spirit will teach and carry out His ministry in you through this simple effective work in the Name of Jesus Christ. Trust Him for your transformation and testimonies.

    1.   Choose a time most convenient for you (at least an hour) that you can keep daily in order to read Following Jesus Christ and your Bible.

    2.   Present your chosen time to the Holy Spirit in covenant and implore His help to enable you to keep the meeting at your chosen time daily; otherwise, you will not be able to keep to this meeting. And it will surprise you how faithfully He will remind and enable you to do this daily!

    4.   You need to make yourself available to the Lord at your chosen time daily. It is you coming into the Presence of God. It is you meeting with your Father through the Holy Spirit. Situations change for the best in the Presence of God! Miracles abound in the Presence of God! Each meeting is a plus!

    5.   Release yourself (all your concerns) to the Holy Spirit for His instruction and transformation. The Holy Spirit in the course of the meeting(s) will take away whatever that mars the image of God in you!

    6.   Start reading Following Jesus Christ. Please read it meditatively. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as He takes you through the Scriptures even beyond those contained in the book. The Lord does speak at this time.

    7.   After or in the course of the meeting, the Lord may speak or give you revelation(s) through dream(s), vision(s), ministration, or as He deems best. For example, I had a surgery in which fibroids were removed from my womb, but after a few years, there was another growth of fibroids. As I began to meet the Lord at my chosen time, the Lord gave me a revelation that the fibroids in my womb melted! Some months later, I had a need to scan my womb; to my excitement, there were no fibroids. I have had repeated scans, and to the glory of God, there are no fibroids in my womb. The surgery was done by God in one of our meetings! Praise the Lord!

    8.   Do whatever the Lord tells you to do at this meeting. In this meeting, all that is required from you is total obedience to whatever the Lord reveals to you or tells you to do. No doubt you may occasionally make mistakes; do not quit the meeting. You have just begun to know God and understand His voice. You are like a child that is beginning to walk; he or she may record several falls yet learn how to walk right. God will faithfully and lovingly correct your mistake(s).

    9.   The duration of this meeting (personal encounter) varies; it depends on how hungry you are for God, but the minimum time should be an hour. Spending just one hour with God daily out of the twenty-four hours is no big deal! Experience has shown that the more faithful you are in attending this meeting, the more time you would like to spend with the Lord because it is simply awesome! Extraordinary testimonies have been recorded in this simple but life-transforming experience!

    10.   Ask the Holy Spirit for His understanding of the dreams, visions, teachings, instructions etc. that He communicates to you. Understanding the mind of God in this walk influences obedience to whatever God communicates to you. Mistakes often occur when we are unable to understand what God has communicated to us. To enhance your understanding, the Lord may choose to repeat the same revelation in more simplified ways, or He may connect you to His vessel who will explain the revelation(s) to you correctly.

    11.   Do this every day at the same time. Ensure that you are faithful in attending this meeting daily. God is faithful and keeps His covenants. He will daily be waiting for you at your chosen time. As you come, He will equip you for the day. Only experience can prove this point!

    12.   If the meeting time you have chosen is not convenient, by all means please change it. The time must be convenient for you. You are cultivating a Father-Child relationship with God your Father, and this is the foundation for effective discipleship. You have entered into a friendly relationship with Jesus Christ through the person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is not a taskmaster but your Friend. He wants to walk and work with you as friends do! You have commenced a life of total dependence on the Holy Spirit’s leading.

    13.   The more you obey His instructions and revelations, the more He proves Himself mightily in your life. But if you fail to obey His instructions and revelations, He may not give more because God is orderly. He must achieve the first thing first in your life before He proceeds to do the second, third, and fourth things.

This sounds very simple to meet the need in your heart, doesn’t it? Yes, it is very simple, but it has never failed to achieve the desired results. It sounds so simple like what Prophet Elisha asked Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram, to do in order to be cured of his leprosy that had defied cure—see 2 Kings 5: 1-14. The truth is that every meeting is your coming into God’s Manifest Presence. And nothing is impossible in the Presence of God; mountains melt in God’s Presence. ‘You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand’—Psalm 16: 11. In the Presence of God, there are power, freedom, and real blessings; these and many more will be your lot. The Holy Spirit will be available to administer your inheritance in Christ Jesus to you. Welcome to a sweet walk with the Lord!

Christianity is a call to discipleship; it is a call to become a follower and an imitator of Jesus Christ. All Christians are called to become disciples of Jesus Christ and make disciples for Him in all nations, starting from our immediate environment unto the utmost parts of the earth. ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age; "But you will receive power when
