Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe by Roger McNamee: Conversation Starters
A few years ago, Roger McNamee was optimistic about the future of Facebook, considering it one of his most successful investments. But he had rude awakenings and is now avidly advocating against the tech company. The book is a combination of memoir writing and an indictment of Facebook. It is a chronicle of the tech company's history and a revelation of its anti-democratic practices including its use of surveillance, irresponsible use of private data, and its influence on user behavior. The author cites Mark Zuckerberg's and Sheryl Sandberg's focus on scaling and influence at the expense of social and political order. The effects, including the election results in the U.S., are not merely Facebook oversight as Zuckerberg claimed.
Zucked is a New York Times bestseller.

UCKED: WAKING UP TO THE FACEBOOK CATASTROPHE IS A BOOK written by Roger McNamee. The book recounts how McNamee, a venture capitalist who was an early Facebook investor and an early mentor to its founder Mark Zuckerberg, realizes the irreversible damage that Facebook has done to American society and the world. The author writes the book in an attempt to stop its continuing threat to political and social order.
McNamee is proud to have mentored many tech leaders including Zuckerberg. A few years ago, he was optimistic about the future of Facebook, considering it one of his most successful investments. But he had rude awakenings and is now avidly advocating against the tech company. One of his scary realizations is that Facebook is manipulated by people who have an agenda against democracy. Reminding Zuckerberg and its other top CEO Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook's part and responsibility in the recent political destabilization in Europe and the United States, he was disappointed to learn that they were not too willing to own responsibility and do something about it.
With the election of Donald Trump, McNamee is shocked to see the irresponsible behavior of Facebook's leaders. He looks deeper into the issue and rallies fellow tech leaders in Silicon Valley to inform people of Facebook's critical part in the erosion of democratic values that America and the rest of the world are experiencing
