General Assembly Instructions
Preparing the Wedges
Patterns for the wedges are provided on the pattern insert of this book. Use the patterns to make templates. Use the wedge template to cut wedges for each project as instructed. Wedge pattern includes seam allowances.
1. Trace the wedge shape onto template material and then cut out the template. Label the template as indicated on the pattern.
2. Cut out wedges from fabric as per instructions and pattern.
3. Using a water-soluble marker or fabric chalk, mark a line the distance indicated in the instructions from each side of each wedge as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1
4. Appliqué pieces should be positioned inside lines. This will ensure that you have the same amount of space showing between each appliqué when wedges are stitched together, giving an even appearance.
Fabric Selection
The types of fabric you choose may change the way you prepare and stitch your project. Many cottons tend to fray when used for fusible appliqué methods. It is recommended that you use batiks for the projects in this book. They have a tighter weave and do not fray easily, giving excellent results for intricate appliqué pieces.
