    He Atoned for Me

    How great the love of my savior,

    He atoned for me.

    However could I repay Him,

    but with a broken heart.

    My soul contrite forced to my knees,

    I plead unto my Father.

    Let my misdeeds be forgotten,

    let my Lord’s pain be no more in vain.

    This day I give my sins to Thee,

    this guilt upon my shoulders.

    Oh, the pain, the grief,

    the suffering, of that great Jehovah.

    Was mine the one to make Him bend,

    to make Him bleed, to make Him suffer?

    Was I the one to force a crown of thorns upon His head?

    Was mine the one to burst His veins,

    to fill His pours with blood?

    Was I the one to make a cup so bitter for Him to drink?

    Was mine the one to cause all this?

    Oh Lord was it I?

    Of course it was, I am but a man,

    I’m weak, I’m small, I’m mortal.

    Oh, how I wish to drink the dregs,

    to make the plea, to take His place in suffering.

    But I am weak, and He is strong,

    He is the One Begotten.
