Types of Leaderships
Autocratic

Affects on Organizational Cultures

makes decisions on their own and then announces them to the group (Bateman and Snell, 2011)
Democratic

Autocratic
ensures all employees are on the same page with the business owner.

Democratic
help create a sense of teamwork and belonging among followers, and pacesetting leaders drive work in an organization by empowering followers to maximize their own skills (Osmond, V., 2011).

encourages feedback and input from managers or employees regarding organizational performance (Osmond, V. 2011).
Laissez-Faire

Laissez-Faire
negatively affect the workplace if employees want or need regular feedback or are too junior to work independently (Brandenberg,2010).

a hands-off approach, where managers and employees work according to their own preference and schedule (Osmond, V., 2011).

Organizational Culture Levels

Assumptions are made unconscious, taken for granted beliefs, and thoughts and feelings (Schein, E. 1992). Values are shared principles, standards, and goals (Carpenter, M., Bauer, T., Erdogan, P. 2009). Artifacts are visual organizational structures and processes.

Four Types of Organizational Cultures


Clan and Market Culture

Hierarchical and Adhocracy Culture

Clan Culture is internally oriented and very flexible.


Associated with positive employee attitudes and products and service quality. focuses on creating a high morale environment through empowerment, team building, employee involvement and development (Culture Delight, 2009).

Hierarchical Culture is internally focused and internally controlled.


Value standardization, control, and a well-defined structure for authority and decision making. controlled to avoid errors and keep consistency (Culture Delight, 2009).

Market Culture is externally focused and externally controlled.


Clear goals and contingent rewards motivate employees to perform and meet shareholders expectations. all of the attention goes toward improving productivity, staying competitive, and customer preferences (Culture Delight, 2009).

Advocacy Culture is externally focused and very flexible.


emphasizes change in which growth, resource acquisition, and innovation are stressed (Bateman and Snell, 2011). doesnt have many rules because they allow their employees to have the freedom to be creative(Culture Delight, 2009).

Managerial Control

In managerial terminology, control is ensuring work accomplishme nt according to plans. It is a process of ensuring that activities are producing desired results.
