Dana Fredwell What Good Writers Do Introduction: This is a technology enhanced writing lesson to help students think about

their writing. Content Area and Grade or Age Level of Students: Third grade but can be adapted for any elementary grade level. Objectives: Students will be able to write following the writing process (prewrite, rough draft, edit, revise, and final copy) Students will be able to use technology to build a digital story following the writing process.

Standards Addressed: (Common Core)

W.3.4. With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose. (Gradespecific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 13 above.) W.3.5. With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, and editing. W.3.6. With guidance and support from adults, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with others.

Relative Advantage: Students will be engaged while using Storyjumper an online publishing tool they can create books with. These books can be printed and ordered by parents. Students will be excited to work through the writing process so they can publish it using this tool. Timeline: 5-10 fifty-minute class periods. Can be shortened or lengthened to meet the needs of students. Materials: Anchor charts, writing materials, and computers with Internet access. Grouping Strategies: 1:1 computers but can be modified as

needed. Learning Activities: Students will view an online book as a class on Storyjumper written by me titled What Good Writers Do. Students will help make an anchor chart to display what they learned good writers do. Students will work through the writing process to create a fictional story. Students will publish their story using Storyjumper. Students will share their stories with the class during our publishing party.

Assessment: Rubric that students will do self-assessments as they work through the process, I will use the same rubric Adaptations for Learners with Special Needs: This activity is suited to any student. Students could create a few pages and practice writing sentences instead of stories. Students can work with a partner to assist them. Students can work with me I small groups.
