and Speech Grades 7 & 8 Mrs. Karen Rodriguez 2012/2013 Course Overview Class Goals: To train students to use the Bible as the standard for examining all things that pertains to your life. To train students to use the Bible as the standard by which you make your decisions and how students conduct themselves. To show students the importance of developing Christian character so that you can be armed and ready for Gods calling in their lives. Course Methods: Reading aloud in class and independent silent reading Lecture and class notes will be taken Homework, quizzes and test Notebook checks Exploring a wide variety of literary works by reading over 4 quarters Key word outlines, Creative writing with structure, critiques and formal essays Summarizations and Oral Presentations Course Concentration: Theology Seven basis Bible studies (7th/8th). This study is foundational in understanding and establishing the Biblical worldview in the mind and heart of students. Literature (8th) Study of the four areas of literary analysis: plot, character, theme, and worldview. There is a special emphasis upon understanding the worldview of the author. American History (8th time permitting) A study of the social, educational, religious, and political life of colonial America leading up to and including the thoughts and ideas (the worldview) that would shape both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.
