Marco Polo was born on September 15, 1254 in

Venice, Italy.

Where he explored
Marco Polo traveled throughout Asia.

When Marco was only six his father Nicolo and his

uncle Maffeo left for the journey to Cathay ( China ). By the time they returned he was 15.When Marco was 17 he accompanied his father and uncle to Asia.

Facts
Marco Polo 1254-1324 was an Italian voyager and merchant

who was one of the first Europeans to travel across Asia through China, visiting the Kublai Khan in Beijing. He left in 1271 he was a teenager at the time with his father Nicolo Polo and his uncle Maffeo Polo they spent about 24 years traveling. Nicolo and Maffeo had previously made a trip to China, from 1260-1269, during which the Kublai Khan the conqueror of China.

What Marco Polo brought back from China


He brought back paper, different mechanical devices,

paper currency, coal, imperial post, the compass, porcelain, and pasta. Marco Polo also brought back thousands of carriages of raw silk and spices .

When he past away


In 1323, Polo was confined to bed, due to illness. On

January 8, 1324, despite physicians' efforts to treat him, Polo was on his deathbed. To write and certify the will, his family requested Giovanni Giustiniani, a priest of San Procolo. His wife, Donata, and his three daughters. The church was entitled by law to a portion of his estate he approved of this and ordered that a further sum be paid to the convent of San Lorenzo, the place where he wished to be buried. He also set free a "Tarta slave" who may have accompanied him from Asia.
