    Yuri Gagarin

    Yuri Gagarin is a Russian pilot and astronaut who was the first man ever in the outer space.
    His parents were peasants working in a farm, but Yuri became interested in space and planets when he was a schoolboy. He then joined a pilot school and became a MIG-15 fighter pilot. He loved ice-hockey and basketball. He was selected to join space program in 1960. Then he flew into space on the spacecraft named VOSTOK 1. He made a circle around the earth and landed safely. Then he became the national hero. He died in an aircraft accident in 1968. His hometown was then renamed Gagarin.
