Sustainable Development It is not only the development of per capita income or human development but sus tainable development

takes into consideration the overall development emphasisi ng on environments. The issues of environment assume great importance for the ov erall development of the nation. The adverse effects of environment is the root cause of many of the indicators of development. The GNP excluding this cost will be higher than the GNP with this cost. The issue of climate change is the main agenda through out the globe (even the H DR, 2010). Sustainable development is the integration of the development of all sectors of the economy particularly the resources (both natural and social resources) w ithout affecting the economic development. Three pillars of development mainly constitute the sustainable developme nt. Three pillars: Society, economy and environment. These three can not be considered separately as these are interrelated and interdependent. OECD (2010) summerised the sustainable development as: A conceptual framework : to look into the process of development in a balanced a nd holistic manner A process: to apply the principles of integration across space and time to all t he concerned decisions relating to development An End goal: Identifying and fixing the specific problems of resource depletion, health care, social exclusion, poverty and unemployment etc.
