Theory: (Sand Replacement Test) A hole of specific dimensions is excavated in the ground.

The mass of the excavated soil is determined. The volume of the hole is determined. The volume of the hole is determined by filling it with clean, uniform sand whose dry density( s) is determined separately by calibration. The volume of the hole is equal to the mass of the sand filled in the hole divided by its dry densiy. Determined Of Sand Density

Sand mass that had fill the cylinder graduation (Wa) can be calculate from this formula: Wa = w1-w2-w3 Where : W1 = Apparatus mass and sand before pouring W2 = Mass in side cone W3 = Apparatus mass and sand after pouring inside the graduation cylinder Sand Density ( s):
s = Wa V

where V= cylinder graduation volume

Sand mass that had fill the excavation hole can calculate from this formula: Wb = W1-W4-W2 Where : W4= Apparatus mass and sand after pouring inside the excavation hole. Sand bulk density can be calculate from this formula:
b = WT x s Wb

Where WT = sand from excavation hole

After get the moisture content of excavation sand (M), sand dry density can be calculate from this formula:
b=100
b

(1+M)
