The French and Indian War Thesis: The French were in fact responsible for their contribution in the

war, but because of the Britishs disrespect, invasiveness, and assumptions, the French had good reason to fight back. Wars Before the War: Before the French and Indian War even began, France and Great Britain had already been in three wars with each other. (Carolyn Gard) These wars included the King Williams War (1689-1697) Queen Annes War, (1701-1713) and King Georges War (1744-1748) Lieutenant-Governor John Usher, says: ye 14th Inst at night a Post came to towne fro MajorHincksman, wch gave an acctt of about 80 or 100 Indians, yt our scouts had made discovery of in ye night siting p theire fires hammering of slugs for theire gunns our scouts was soe neare them yt they could see ye Indians & heare them talke, yesterday morning we had news yt yeIndians had killd two men at Groton Jera: Bowers is gone out wth about 100 men after them This quote describes the situation the British men are in. The Native Americans are already siding with the French because of the early French arrival to the New World. Frenchs Arrival to the New World-Frenchs Arrival to The New World: In 1608 Champlain brought a group of settlers to the area around Montreal. They built a fort and a settlement. Champlain sent out traders to buy furs from the Indians. Champlain made friends with the Hurons. He brought missionaries to live with the Indians. These missionaries built churches. Champlain explored the Great Lakes and discovered Lake Champlain. Champlain was the first to systematically investigate the eastern shores of Canada and the New England coast. In 1672 Father Marquette, a missionary living with the Huron Indians, contacted Louis Joliet. He wanted them to find a river to the Pacific Ocean. They discovered the Mississippi River. The two traveled as far as the Arkansas River then returned north. This quote is proof that even in the 1600s the French and the Indians got along.

Settlement in the New World-One reason the French were not interested in settling in the New World was because most of the French outposts were in the cold north woods. Many colonists did not want to live under these cold conditions. After 1713, American colonists moved east of the Kennebec River to set up new settlements. 1630, Boston is settled by Puritan immigrants from England. In 1632, Acadia is established by the French. Frenchs Settlement in the New World-This quotes sheds some light on the fact that even though the British did get a leg up on the French when it comes to settling into the New World, it was really hard for the colonists to survive. The French were there making money for their own country while the British was harshly dumping exiles into this land. Examples of Tension: Although the French claimed the land of Ohio River Valley, colonists and British people were invasive by rudley just taking it over. The quote was by Captain John Smith, a colonial leader. This quote really highlights their blindness to how invasive they are being. He is claiming that since the land hasnt been settled into and there isnt houses put up, its okay for the colonists to move there. The French built forts to protect their fur trades. The British misunderstood the forts as defensive, and assumed they were preparing for battle. They then did the same thing themselves. The quote made it obvious that the French didnt want them there, but instead of fighting they just pretended they werent there by building forts to distance themselves from the British. "Fathers, both you and the English are white, we live in a Country between; therefore the Land belongs to neither one nor to other; But the Great Being Above allow'd it to be a Place of Residence for us; so Fathers, I desire you to withdraw, as I have done our Brothers the English; for I will keep you at Arms length. I lay this down as a Trial for both, to see which will have the greatest Regard to it, and that Side we will stand by, and make equal Sharers with us. This Native American Chief was polite and had good reason for asking the British to leave. He was also asking the French to share the land with them

and pledging that they will be there for the French. The Native Americans are siding with the French because of the Frenchs respectfulness and loyalty.
