ASME Standards

Introduction
ASME is one of the oldest standards-developing organizations in the world producing approximately 600 codes and standards, covering many technical areas, such as : i) Boiler components ii) Elevators, iii) Measurement of fluid flow in closed conduits, iv) Cranes, v) Hand tools & machine tools and vi) Fasteners. According to ASME a Standard can be defined as a set of technical definitions and guidelines that function as instructions for designers, manufacturers, operators, or users of equipment.

Codes in ASME Standard


ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC)

- It is a standard that provides rules for the design, fabrication, and


inspection of boilers and pressure vessels.

ASME Performance Test Codes (PTC) - The codes provide guidelines for test procedures that yield results of the
highest level of accuracy based on current engineering knowledge, taking into account test costs and the value of information obtained from testing.

Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 - The ASME created and maintain the Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 (NQA1) regulatory standard.
