Theoretical Base A Theoretical base for practice is a terminal outcome of Ferris State Universitys RN to BSN program.

As defined by the nursing program the BSN prepared nurse will integrate theories and knowledge from the arts, humanities, sciences and nursing to develop a foundation for nursing practice (FSU, 2012). This terminal outcome has been accomplished as evidenced by the articles attached to this heading. The article titled Rogers Diffusion of Innovation affirms that nursing theories can and should be used when change is occurring or is about to occur. Rogers theory was applied to the implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) at a health center. By utilizing this theory, the process of implementing an EMR made sense and one was able to appreciate the process. The Power point presentation Prayer documents the use of Rogers diffusion of Innovation Model in the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) therapy of prayer. Evidence is presented on the benefits of prayer as a Cam therapy, as well as a theory used for dissemination of the evidence. Cam therapy is a current trend within the health care setting. The second article, titled The Art of Caring takes a close look at nursing and other disciplines. The article focusses on the effect of caring on all relationships within the environment; whether it is in management (non-nursing) or nursing. Relational or caring theory is a current trend in health care, as the nurse caring behavior is perceived as a quality indicator in nurse-patient encounters. This terminal outcome has been met as documented in the above articles written within the RN to BSN program. Reference Ferris State University (FSU)(2012). Portfolio guidelines.
