Who Killed Aung San?

On a piece of paper, write down who you think killed Aung San and why. You do not need to write your name on the paper. When you are finished, pass your paper up to the front.

The Executive Council met for a meeting at the Secretariat in Rangoon on Saturday morning, July 19, 1947. At about 10:30 am, three men wearing army uniforms shot the guard outside the door and burst into the meeting room. The gunmen began shooting at very close range.

Aung San stood up as the gunmen came in, and was immediately shot in the chest. The gunmen then shot at people to the left and right of Aung San. Six people died in that room, and three others were badly hurt and would die later. Only four people in the room survived.

Facts
U Saw, an important Burmese politician who had been Prime Minister of Burma under the British rule, was found guilty of creating the plan to kill the Executive Council. He was hung for this crime.
