1) Question: How fast is your reaction time?

2) Research: First Experiment: For our second choice we have chosen the ruler drop i got this idea from this document has info on G-force and a grid helping out. The resources we need are 2 humans and one ruler. For the rst test we will use our right hands for the second test we will use our left hand. according to this document I downloaded Gforce and gravity will pull down the ruler the quicker you catch the ruler the better your reaction time will be.www.open.edu/openlearn/files/ole/ open2files/g-force.doc Second Experiment: For the get up and run test we will need 2 humans, 1 stopwatch and a cement oor we can run on. The average human reaction time is 215 milliseconds. Firstly, we will forward when the stopwatch user say goto see if forward is ` 3) Hypothesis If we do the ruler drop and the running experiment I think the running test will be faster than the ruler test because in my experience I believe that leg movement coordination is faster then ne motor skills. 4) Materials: Ruler Drop: 1. 2. 2 humans Getup and run test: 1. Stopwatch 2. 2 human 3. Floor to run on 5) Procedures Ruler Drop Test 1. Your partner needs to hold a ruler above your hand. 2. Your partner will drop the ruler at a random time depending on how fast you catch and how many centimeters you get up to is your reaction. Get Up and Run Test 1. Your partner presses start on the stop watch and you get up your reaction time will be based on how quick you get up. 5.2) Variables Independent: The one things thats different is the way we record time. dependent: The reaction time Controlled: both will use a Ruler, a human, a chart, speed, eye coordination.

DATA TABLES

Ruler Test

Trial 1
49 Centimeters is off the chart slow. I am tired so I think my reaction time is slower. 2nd time:

Trial 2
5 centimeters which is 0.11. I think was closed in bit farther which helped me.

Trial 3
20 centimeters which is 0.20. I think more through my hand than last time.

Trial 4 Average
4 centimeters which is 0.09. I think I am getting faster as the experiment goes on.

24 centimeters which in time means 0.22 seconds.

The average is 0.155.

Get Up and Run Test

Trial 1
0.205 I think these scores would be all different if we had a better stopwatch.

Trial 2
0.247 I think you are slower when you are tired in the morning.

Trial 3
0.201 I was getting more used to it and I got a bit faster.

Trial 4 Average
0.209 I think I started to stumbled because I was getting my heart pumping a little bit.

0.2155

Was your hypothesis similar to your results later in the experiment? No, there results were different. What tests did you do? Two variations of the ruler test, one speaking one and one physical one. Did you and your partner get different results? Why? Because we are two different people with different reaction times.

Conclusion
For this lab experiment Oliver and I tested our reaction time on a ruler drop experiment and how fast you can move forward after someone saying go test. We did this all, to test our reaction time. With all that, I learned about my average reaction times in both of these experiments that I never learned before in my life. After all this, my hypothesis was: I thought my body, physically, and my ears and the processing system in me would be faster than my ne motor skills (hands). Between our two experiments, we only had one part for both to make it easier. I think for our variables it would have went a lot smoother with a better stopwatch for the get up and run test. For the get up and run test we were not a hundred percent sure our reaction times are right, because the human body systems is faster and stronger than a free stopwatch on the internet. So, obviously, we struggled on that. However, for the ruler test I think most of it was accurate.

Above, is our graphs that we recorded our observations on during the experiment. Both experiments had very different results, which I knew, but I did not know what they would be. With the results I denitely could say that the ruler test went a lot better and was easier for us to record the data than the get up and run test. Just so you remember my hypothesis was that my speed in my legs and body would be faster than my ne motor skills (hands and ngers). No I was not correct, it was actually the opposite to that. My hands in the ruler test were

faster according to my two averages. My average for the ruler test was 0.155, and my get up and run test was 0.2155. Honestly, I have never really thought much about my reaction time so it was interesting nding out what it was for these experiments. I thought I learned that righting a hypothesis is really important because after doing the experiment you have something to base on your data and comparing and contrasting. Although, my favorite part was actually doing the experiment and recording on the data tables. I think I could work on the variable part of this experiment because I did not exactly have a idea what I was doing when we were at that part of the experiment. Overall, I found these tests very interesting however, though, I wished they were a bit bigger because the ruler test is the kind of thing you could do in a small room. I will continue learning about myself in these interesting experiments.
