1) Question:

How fast is your reaction time?

2) Research:
http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/stats.php Average reaction time, 220 milliseconds. http://cognitivelabs.com/mydna_speedtestno.htm My average reaction time, 214 milliseconds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millisecond How long a millisecond is, a thousandths of a second. We chose to do a ruler test since it was accurate and we thought it was simple and easy to do and record your reaction time.

3) Hypothesis
If my partner holds a ruler and drops it for me to catch, then I think that my reaction time for my right hand will be faster than my left hand.

4) Materials
1. Ruler 2. Reaction time sheet 3. Recording paper 4. A Volunteer 5. Someone to drop the ruler

5) Procedures
Step 1) Hold up the ruler. Step 2) Make partner ready. Step 3) Drop ruler. Step 4) Make partner catch ruler. Step 5) Measure reaction time using sheet. Step 6) Repeat with your other hand.

5.2) Variables
Independent: I the first experiment we will use our right hand and in the second experiment we will use our left hand. Controlled: Ruler dropped from 30cm. Catching fingers are at 0cm. Same chart. Same experiment. Same Ruler. Dependent: Reaction Time

6) Data & Procedures

Right Hand.
Trial 1 Oskar: 170 Milliseconds Talyn: 200 Milliseconds. Trial 2 Oskar: 195 Milliseconds Talyn: 210 Milliseconds Trial 3 Oskar: 210 Milliseconds Talyn: 250 Milliseconds Trial 4 Oskar: 180 Milliseconds Talyn: 235 Milliseconds Average Oskar: 188 Milliseconds Talyn: 223 Milliseconds

Left Hand.

Trial 1 Oskar: 145 Milliseconds Talyn: 235 Milliseconds

Trial 2 Oskar: 210 Milliseconds Talyn: 140 Milliseconds

Trial 3 Oskar: 215 Milliseconds :-( Talyn: 180 Milliseconds.

Trial 4 Oskar: 155 Milliseconds Talyn: 225 Milliseconds

Average Oskar: 181.25 Milliseconds Talyn: 195 Milliseconds

7) Discussion
Question #1: Why is the left hand faster than the right hand?
Maybe you are used to it with your left and not right.

Question #2: How accurate is this experiment?

Not perfect but it is close.

Question #3: What experiments did you do?

They did a ruler drop and a ball-throw-dodge-thing.

Question #4: Did you have any problems?

Kept fighting and arguing/getting off topic.

8) Conclusion
This is my conclusion about my lab on the ruler drop with Oskar Tullburg, the purpose was to learn how fast my reaction time was.. I learned about how you can measure your reaction time. My hypothesis: If my partner holds a ruler and drops it for me to catch, then I think that my reaction time for my right hand will be faster than my left hand. A reaction is a natural human response. We wanted to do the ruler drop for our experiment so we did right and left because your reaction time could be faster is you used a different hand so the variable was right and left for fairness and so we can see witch hand was faster. If we missed the ruler we tried again because if you missed all four then you cant see what your reaction time would be.
Right Hand.
Trial 1 Oskar: 170 Milliseconds Talyn: 200 Milliseconds. Trial 2 Oskar: 195 Milliseconds Talyn: 210 Milliseconds Trial 3 Oskar: 210 Milliseconds Talyn: 250 Milliseconds Trial 4 Oskar: 180 Milliseconds Talyn: 235 Milliseconds Average Oskar: 188 Milliseconds Talyn: 223 Milliseconds

Left Hand.

Trial 1 Oskar: 145 Milliseconds Talyn: 235 Milliseconds

Trial 2 Oskar: 210 Milliseconds Talyn: 140 Milliseconds

Trial 3 Oskar: 215 Milliseconds :-( Talyn: 180 Milliseconds.

Trial 4 Oskar: 155 Milliseconds Talyn: 225 Milliseconds

Average Oskar: 181.25 Milliseconds Talyn: 195 Milliseconds

As you can see this is our graph on our reaction times. My average for my right hand was 223 MS, but for left it was 195 MS. I learned that the left hand was always faster than the right shown in these charts. I thought my right hand would be faster. My hypothesis: If my partner holds a ruler and drops it for me to catch, then I think that my reaction time for my right hand will be faster than my left hand. This was not correct, because our left hand was faster. I got this by dropping the ruler and taking how far it fell and turning it into milliseconds. My fastest time average for right was 223 milliseconds. For left, it was 195 milliseconds. I learned that the scientific method is really useful on doing labs. The scientific method makes labs so much easier then trying to discover something. I like the data and observations part, because I think it is good to discover something your didn't know. I need to focus on the conclusion stage, so I can make better write-ups on what I do. I thought that this lab is a very successful lab about what my reaction time is. Saying that I think you should find out what your reaction time is. I now know this, with the scientific method, you can make a lab for almost anything possible.
