November 20, 2012 RE: Jennifer Harned To Whom It May Concern: It is a pleasure to serve as a reference for Jennifer Harned.

She has had a positive influence on our students, our first grade team, and other Eason Elementary staff. Jennifer completed an eight-week student teaching placement in Mrs. Johnsons first grade classroom, collaborating to teach twenty-two students. Jennifer had a natural rapport with the students. As a student teacher in our school, Jennifer had an ongoing ability to interact with and relate to a diverse group of learners with varying needs. Jennifer planned for all of the subject areas, including using a balanced literacy approach, the workshop model, and a variety of resources. She collaborated with her cooperating teacher and first grade Professional Learning Community (PLC) to engage in conversations about curriculum, assessment, and instruction. As a committed teacher, Jennifer showed concern in the classroom by her rapport with her students and reinforcing expectations. Jennifer positively dealt with student behavior in a fair and consistent way. She used our district wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) system. Jennifer taught lessons that included the gradual release model. She successfully taught the Common Core math objectives using Everyday Mathematics as a resource. Jennifer used the structure of Daily 5 to manage the reading workshop and taught whole group mini-lessons using the Common Core. Jennifer also taught students hands-on science using the FOSS kits. Please consider Jennifer for employment because she would only need minimal mentoring as a first year teacher. I know that you would be pleased with Jennifers dedication and ability to make connections with the students. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about Jennifers abilities. Sincerely,

Laura Curtis Instructional Coach Eason Elementary 515-987-5200
