GV900 Research design assignment

[due date: 16 January 2013] This assignment is to design and critically evaluate a survey questionnaire. The questionnaire should be designed to address a particular research question. Students can either choose one of the questions below or agree their own research question with the module supervisor. The completed assignment should include three components: an explanation including a causal model of how the questionnaire (and the variables included) can address the research question; ii) an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the specific question designs chosen; iii) a copy of the questionnaire itself.

The overall word limit for the two prose components i.e. excluding the questionnaire is 4,000 words. Choose one of the following research questions, or discuss an alternative with me: 1) Which better explains abstention in elections: apathy, alienation, or strategic considerations? 2) Why are Scottish men more likely than Scottish women to favour independence for the country? 3) Do religious beliefs influence perceptions of human rights? 4) Explain the relationship, if any, between social class and willingness to protest. If you have any questions about this assignment, especially about what needs to be included and how the completed piece of work should look, then just ask me.
