Evaluation Activity 7

Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task) what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to your full product?
180 Degree Angle: The rule is a basic guideline that states that two characters in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to one another. If the camera was to pass this axis, this would be breaking the key 180 degree rules. Close-up: My group wanted to explore the use of close-up shots in the preliminary task, as we thought they would be necessary to use in the final production, simply because they capture the actors facial expressions, to possibly increase their mood, and present it to the viewer in a more melodramatic way. It is also for the audience to recognise eye-contact, and where their eyes are following. In the preliminary, a conversation was made between a male and female after school hours. This was not included in the final production, From executing close-up shots that the camera I had learnt that the camera needed to be has to be exceptionally still, as even the slightest bit of momentum can distort the viewer. So when we did our preliminary, we practiced holding the camera still on the tripod. Match on action is crucial for maintaining continuity in the sequence, as it allows the audience to see an action followed by a matching action of the previous action. This can be done in 2 or more shots. We used this in the preliminary to explore it.. This is a match on action because the actor wants to go to the door to open it and go inside the room. We used this when the main antagonist was being tracked to the abandoned location. We explored this in the preliminary task, to show an exchange of emotion from the main character in the first frame, in the second frame the viewer come to see a gun being fired into the anonymous actor. This enables the viewer to wonder who it may be so it intrigues them more. In the third frame a car is introduced with an unidentified occupant approaching the warehouse where the assassinator stands outside awaiting the driver. In result to these frames to the final production, I feel as if we have shown our knowledge of these different shot types, and used them in our production efficiently.
