Gas Formation Vlume Factor

The gas formation volume factor is used to relate the volume of gas,as measured at reservoir condition to the volume of the gas as measured at standard condition(14.65 psia and 519.67 R or 60F). This gas property is then defined as the actual volume occupied by a certain amount of gas at a specified preassure and temperature, divided by the volume occupied by the same amount of gas at standard condition. In an equation form, the relationship is expressed as :

Where: Bg = gas formation volume factor, ft3/scf Vg P,T = volume of gas at preassure p and temperature t,ft3 Vg sc = volume gas at standard condition, scf Applying the real gas equation of state pV = ZnRT to the above relationship give

Where : Zsc = Z-factor at standard condition = 1,0 Psc = preassure at standard condition, 14,7 psia Tsc = temperature at standard condition, 60 o f or 519,67 Or in other field units, the gas formation volume factor cn be expressed in bbl/scf
