Performance Steps Step 1: identify basic components of the DAC Gear Maintenance Trainer.

-Based on review of the use guide, information in the IPT Industrial Trades Training Manual, and the assembly and component identification drawings, identify the following training aid components. Base plate, shaft, shims inspection bracket, gears, bearings (tapered/flanged), bearing blocks, bevel gear shaft/hausing assembly. Step 2: Using the spur gears included with the training aid, indentify the construction features and terms associated with gears, and make notes of all estimated values and findings. Use the acrylic gear sample provided with the training aid as a reference, if necessary. . when handling gears, always use caution. avoid contaminants. keep a clean work area. transport gears in their original containers or in a clean soft rag. Avoid unnecessary contact with tools. - Identify the spur gears. A spurgears is a round gear with straight teeth. Ilustration #39 on page 54 of IPT shows a common spurgears - Estimate the outside diameter of the large spurgear. make a note of you findings. Outside diameter can be stated as the diameter of a circle that would touch the tips of the gear teeth. - Estimate the pitch of the small spurgear and the large spurgear. The pitch is the distance between corresponding center points on two consecutive teeth. Using a 6'' rule estimate the distance between corresponding center point on consecutive gear teeth. - Identify the addendum on the acrylic gear sample. The addendum is equal to the height of the tooth above the pitch line. The pitch line passes through the teeth at approximately half of the tooth height. - Identify the dedendum on the acrylic gear sample. the dedendum is equal to the height of the tooth below the pitch line. - Identify the location of the pitch circle on the acrylic gear sample and then on the large spurgear. The pitch circle of a gear is a circle that runs along the pitch line of a gear. The pitch line of a gear lies midway between the top of a gear tooth and the bottom of a gear tooth. - Estimate the pitch diameter of the large spursgear using a 6'' rule. Make a note of your findings. The pitch diameter is the diameter of the pitch circle. - Estimate the diametral pitch of the large spursgear using the estimated pitch diameter found above. Make a note of your findings. Diameter pitch is the ratio of the number of teeth to the pitch diameter of a gear. For example a gear with 36 teeth
