Chapter 2 Artforms
Awareness, Creativity, Communication

Visual Thinking
The Power of Visualization: If we do not visualize, the thing we desire cannot happen.
If we do visualize, we are more successful at making art, setting goals, etc.

Perception and Awareness

In Artforms, Edward Westons pepper seems sensual. He achieves this through careful observation and skillful photography. To become more aware of the world around us we must learn to see.

Looking and Seeing

In the book, The Zen of Seeing, the author suggests we become one with what we see when attempting to draw the subject. It is only at this time that we truly see.

Looking implies lack of perception.

Aesthetics, Art and Beauty

Ivan Albright was a Chicago artist who challenged the idea of beauty. In his Ida painting, he skillfully painted moles, growths, fat, and bad skin. He beautifully rendered this grotesque looking woman ironically seated at her make-up mirror. A dictionary definition of aesthetics is: having to do with the beautiful as distinguished from the useful. A lover of beauty.
