REPORT ON CHEMICAL ENGINEERING PROCESS DESIGN II I have examined the design reports submitted by the grouped final year students. I read through the reports and had one on one quiz session with the students. The students demonstrated firm knowledge in process design. Their design calculations were carried out using computer packages like MS Excel and MATLAB. They also used Hysys Aspen software to do Material and Energy balances, equipment specification and economic evaluation of the projects. They applied chemical engineering standards in the design. They considered the safety and environmental aspects of the different equipment and processes, and developed a plant layout for the process plant. The reports were carefully prepared with drawings and flowcharts in AUTOCAD format. The text, tables and equations were prepared using MS Word. I am very pleased with the level and standard of the design competence shown by the students. The learning and training in process design that are taking place in this department are computer and internationally compliant.
